Now here’s a concept of a next generation paper shredding machine - the Go Green. While it does what every other good paper shredder ought to such as slicing, dicing, and shredding, it is also capable of recycling your waste paper into new usable products. Take for example, the ability to turn paper scraps into Post-It notes. I wonder what happens when I shred papers of different color - how will my Post-It note come out to look like? Too bad this Hong-Li Zhuo Roy designed Go Green paper shredder is but a concept at this point in time.

Looking for a webcam but hate those boring industrial designs? How about this Stuffed Doggie Webcam? He looks absolutely cute, with the camera being in place where his nose is. If only they could include a screen cleaner on his belly, then this would make the Stuffed Doggie Webcam the perfect desktop/notebook companion. No idea on how much he costs though.

While Ikea brought the idea of flatpacking throughout the civilized world, Canadian artist Max Dean and robotics expert Raffaello D’Andrea collaborated to bring you a robotic chair that is smart enough to reconstruct itself after being dismantled. Watch the video and tell me that you’re not creeped out by the entire experience. This sorta reminds me of the T1000 in Terminator re-assembling itself after being blown to smithereens when frozen. Cornell University has stated that the video of this self-assembling robot chair has been floating around for quite a while already, but it is still worth a look for those who haven’t done so yet.

…if you can prove that $7,250 Pear Anjou speaker cables are better than ordinary Monster Cables. That’s the total amount of moolah offered by James Randi should any audiophile prove him wrong. Let’s see what Randi has to say about this.
We see that the Pear Cable company is advertising a pair of 12-foot “Anjou” audio cables for $7,250; that’s $302 a foot! And, as expected, “experts” were approached for their opinions on the performance of these wonders … Well, we at the JREF are willing to be shown that these “no-compromise” cables perform better than, say, the equivalent Monster cables. While Pear rattles on about “capacitance,” “inductance,” “skin effect,” “mechanical integrity” and “radio frequency interface,” - all real qualities and concerns, and adored by the hi-fi nut-cases - we naively believe that a product should be judged by its actual performance, not by qualities that can only be perceived by attentive dogs or by hi-tech instrumentation. That said, we offer the JREF million-dollar prize to - for example - Dave Clark, Editor of the audio review publication Positive Feedback Online.
To date, no one has stepped up to Randi’s challenge. I wonder how owners of the Pear Anjou speaker cables are feeling now, knowing that they forked out ridiculous sums for something ordinary. Kinda reminds me of the Emperor’s New Clothes eh.

Just make sure this iStones speaker doesn’t roll off your desk, as a docked iPod that falls along with it would surely experience some sort of system shock that could snuff it out for good. The iStones speakers are the real thing, weighing approximately 5.5 pounds each. They boast USB 2.0 ports as well as audio and video outputs, and are known as Wabi and Sabi. No idea on pricing as at press time. If you’re going for the Flintstones theme in your new pad, then picking up the iStones speakers doesn’t sound like a bad idea after all.

Bang & Olufsen and Samsung’s love union has resulted in the Serenata cellphone, and this time we are faced with a handset that concentrates more on audio and looking good than anything else. Features include HiFi quality speakers, a docking station, 4GB of internal memory, a navigation wheel, a 2.4″ color LCD display, and dedicated music controls. Each purchase comes with a pair of ergonomic earphones, and the Serenata hops on the touchscreen bandwagon, ditching buttons and keypads in favor of its “sensi-touch” display instead. No idea on how much it costs, but brace yourselves for some massive monetary damage. This is the second outing for both companies, as their firstborn was the Serene.

With only one day left before CEATEC JAPAN 2007 officially opens, Japan’s TV manufacturers are already indicating a slew of new flat panel displays will be the attention grabbers at the show. Hitachi is saying they’ll have a 1.9 mm 32 inch LCD model to wow the crowds as well as a “hybrid” 47 inch LCD projector/panel display claiming a 8,000,000:1 contrast ratio in a dark room. JVC is weighing in with a 3.7 cm thick 42 inch LCD model. However, CEATEC is also about parts for CE devices, and New Japan Radio will be showing an amplifier IC for high-end audio devices using a lead frame made from 99.99% copper. No, it probably won’t be in the next iPod, but it should make for a killer surround sound amplifier. [CEATEC coverage by Tech ON!]
