Korean company Pixel Labs has a “Ripple Note” laptop that has a particular texture on the outside shell that gives it a “luxurious” look.
The inside is rather plain and comparable to its other notebook cousins:
- Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 - 1.3 Megapixel webcam - 3 USB Ports (still better than my Vaio SZ) - Improved WiFi-g connectivity
I think that it is a little “fatty” and that Pixel Labs needs to do it on a slimmer laptop. Price: $1300.

That’s probably the best news for today: a group of cellphones manufacturers have agreed to use micro USB as the sync/charge standard for their future phones.
This might help put an end to the ridiculous situation that many users face: having to buy a set of chargers (wall, car, travel) for each of their phones. Manufacturers will simply have to focus on better user interfaces and battery life instead of charging us $20 for a $1 charger. Nice move – although China did it before.
Interesting move, but does it have to do with the fact that China is actually enforcing this?

This is a rumor, but the word on the street is that Apple is preparing a new line of uber-thin laptops. According to 9to5mac.com new laptops that are “considerably” slimmer then current ones have been spotted. The screen is closer to the edges (not that there’s that much room there) and the keyboard resemble Apple’s new wireless keyboard. Pricing will be “aggressive” according to the same source.
This sounds like a MacBook fan fantasy, but I hope it turns out to be true. In the meantime, take it with a grain of salt.

Iron Key has a USB key for “enterprise and military” applications. Enterprise, because it is using hardware encryption and military because it’s rugged, thanks to its shock and water resistant casing. From the website:
“A password is used to unlock your IronKey, and this is verified in hardware. If an IronKey is lost or stolen, attempts to unlock or tamper with the IronKey will trigger a self-destruct sequence, ensuring data is kept confidential.”
And I guess that in a life-or-death situation, throwing the key to the adversary’s face could even save your life.

iPhone users running on the T-mobile network had a bad surprise when their request for service (whatever their problem was) was booted by Apple’s customer service on the grounds that installing 3rd party apps voids the warranty of their iPhone.
So, if you have to bring your iPhone in for repair… it needs to either be really dead, or show AT&T as a network.
