BenQ hopes to make a ripple with their yet unnamed mobile Internet device that settles somewhere between the realm of smartphones and UMPCs. It is much larger than the average handset, although smaller than a UMPC, and is powered by an Intel processor featuring a 4.8″ touchscreen display and a user-friendly UI. The UI shown was a bit sluggish, but that could be due to the quality of the video shot. At first glance, all those icons look just like those found on the iPhone, and it is safe to say that it is but a semblance of the iPhone’s interface since this isn’t licensed from Apple. No idea on when it will be available nor how much it costs.

The Navi Clip from I-O Data comes with an integrated SiRFStar III/LP chipset, giving you one of the best chipsets in the market today where GPS navigation is concerned. You hook this up to a computer or laptop, enabling you to get an idea of exactly where you are on the planet. It sure is portable, weighing a mere 18 grams and measuring 53mm × 24mm × 11mm. At €150, this is the perfectly touristy thing to get when you’re in unfamiliar territory for a holiday.

NBC will be making their primetime and late-night TV shows available for download a full week after the shows air through a new service known as NBC Direct. These downloads are available at no additional charge to the viewer, which is always good news for those who have missed an episode here and there. A beta version of the service will begin this October and will work only on Windows-based computers, while a Mac version is being planned at an unspecified later date. Some of the confirmed content include recent Emmy winners - “30 Rock,” “Bionic Woman,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Heroes,” “Life,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The Office,” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”.

Just as I thought, the huge money pit that is the world of iPod accessories has just grown larger with the launch of new iPods, and the iLuv i707 FM transmitter is definitely one of them. It boasts an adjustable arm that allows you to position it comfortable on most dashboards while plugged into a lighter socket. The FM transmission is said to be rather powerful with the intention of removing interference from pirate radio stations as well as improve overall sound reproduction, resulting in crisp treble and smooth bass. The iLuv i707 FM transmitter retails for £27.60.

PS3 owners are more or less resigned to the fact that their long awaited killer app Metal Gear Solid 4 will be released sometime in 2008, but could joy arrive at their doorsteps earlier? Apparently so, as Konami’s Tokyo Game Show website has listed the game as a Winter 2007 release. Could this simply be a typo, old content, or the actual release date? Well, I suppose the entire gaming world would wish that the answer lies in the third option, but on the other hand it would be better to see a polished product being pushed back rather than hastily released (Lair, anyone?). PS3 is in need of a AAA title desperately soon lest they lose out on this holiday season yet again.

Now who would’ve thought of putting their 9-Volt batteries to use like this? This extremely small flashlight is about as portable as it gets - all you need to do is attach the LED light unit on top of any working 9-volt battery and you’re good to go. The trio of extremely bright LEDs work well under any condition, and the inclusion of a power switch on top helps you conserve battery without having to detach it. These 9-Volt flashlights are expected to ship next month, and will probably retail for under $10 a pop.

LaCie might have engaged the services of designer Sam Hecht to come up with the Little Disk, but apart from the glossy finish (that incidentally screams of fingerprint magnet), there is nothing much to shout about. Overall, some people might even mistake it for a chocolate box. Nevertheless, let’s take a look at the specifications - the Little Disk will come in 30GB, 80GB, and 120GB varieties and aim to bring the concept of “clean lines” to the masses by eliminating any unwanted and ugly design flaws to come up with the bare minimum. When it comes to storage, reliability, capacity, and speed are of primary importance to me - aesthetics can take a back seat.

The GamePark GP2X F-200 finally has a price to go along with it - sad to say, the $250 price tag could get you double the number of DS Lites, which is like the hottest selling handheld console at this point in time. Improvements of the GamePark GP2X F-200 over its predecessor include a touchscreen double the RAM, portable media player capabilities, and free games from the GP2X community, but as everyone knows by know, content is king and there are no two ways about it. Do you think its support for Amiga, Atari ST, C64, Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Megadrive/Genesis, Mega-CD/Sega-CD, SNES, GB, GBA, Neo-Geo, MAME, and NES platforms will make it a big hit?

The Venus Fly Trap is one of the most menacing plants I have ever laid my eyes upon, and I must say they certainly do their bit in reducing the pesky fly population. Unfortunately, your living room or kitchen might not be the best place to grow one, which is why the Electronic Venus Fly Trap is the next best thing (it beats out on the bug zapper in terms of sheer coolness). Inside you will find a non-toxic bait that lures flies into its plastic mouth. Whenever a fly falls for the bait, the plant will snap shut, where the manufacturer claims that the fly will be sent to fly heaven “humanely”. Since there are no digestive juices inside this device, I’ll leave that bit up to your own imagination. The Electronic Venus Fly Trap is powered by a trio of AAA batteries and retails for $40.

The much talked about WiMAX standard has received a positive boost with news that it will inhabit laptops from next year onwards courtesy of mini card and half mini card form factors. These mini cards measure no larger than current ones with WiFi functionality. The new WiMAX chip released next year will be of the same size as current WiFi ones, hence making it possible to include both the WiMAX and WiFi mini card in just about any new laptop released next year. For those who prefer computing on the smaller UMPC platform, there is always the half mini card form factor. What about us who use our N95s and BlackBerries? Is there such a thing as a quarter mini card?
