Clearwire portable wireless Internet

Clearwire portable wireless InternetClearwire will soon begin a trial of its portable wireless Internet service around Seattle via its PC cards. As you know, the majority of WiMax services require relatively large modems that must be hooked up to a power outlet, limiting your so-called portable Internet access. The Clearwire PC card enables customers to hook up to a wireless network effortlessly no matter where they are, as long as they remain within the coverage area. The PC card is manufactured by Motorola and retails for $80, while a 1.5Mbps connection will set you back by $60 monthly. There are no download limits attached with this service, which is a clear advantage over Verizon Wireless when it comes to streaming audio and video.

AT&T readies Moto Q Global

AT&T readies Moto Q GlobalAlso know as the Motorola Q with integrated GPS, the Moto Q Global is an extremely slim device filled to the brim with features, where built-in GPS navigation is one of the main highlights. Without a shadow of doubt, AT&T will lock this feature for 3rd party applications while making it available only through TeleNav in order to milk a few extra dollars from you. Other features of this 3G-enabled Moto Q Global include a QWERTY keyboard, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and a microSDHC memory card slot (imagine carry up to 32GB of additional data with you!). No word on pricing, but it should be available pretty soon from the folks at AT&T.

LG LX97WH plays nice with both formats

LG LX97WH plays nice with both formats

I guess it doesn’t really matter much on which camp you’re on when it comes to HD DVD and Blu-ray as hardware manufacturers are starting to include hybrid drives, just like the LG LX97WH. This computer does not only support regular DVD, but it reads both HD DVD and Blu-ray as well. It wil be powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and an NVIDIA GeForce 8 series video card, all crammed into a casing that measures a mere 8.9cm in thickness. No word on pricing as at press time, but just make sure you’ve got a nice display to go along with this.

LG introduces LN800 for Europe

LG introduces LN800 for Europe

Folks living in Europe will be pleased to know that LG has yet another high-end GPS navigation device known as the LN 800, taking over where the LN 700 left off. This GPS navigation system comes with a 4″ touchscreen display at a resolution of 320 x 240. That sounds rather off since most screens at that size will feature 480 x 272 pixel resolution. That aside, the LN 800 is powered by the highly capable SiRFStar III GPS chipset with maps from Navteq and the navigation software from Destinator 6. Voice synthesis enables the LN 800 to announce street names when the voice guidance feature is turned on. Other goodies include a RDS/TMC traffic receiver, 512MB ROM, 64MB RAM, an SD memory card slot, and audio playback capability. The LG LN 800 will retail for €200.

Yamaha TENORI-ON touch screen

Yamaha TENORI-ON touch screen

The Yamaha TENORI-ON touch screen will definitely appeal to musicians as they get to “draw” music. Features include a control interface of up to 16 layers, 256 preset tones, and half a dozen sequence/loop modes, all the while displaying lights that can only be described as a stunning visual feedback loop. Designed by Japanese media artist Toshio Iwai, the Yamaha TENORI-ON should be available in the UK from this month onwards, retailing for approximately $1,200. Budding musicians who want to impress their mates will definitely vie for one of these right smack in the middle of the living room. Just watch out for unruly kids who have a tendency to break fragile items.

Transparent Toaster for perfectionists

Transparent Toaster for perfectionistsFor those who love to have the perfect toast (equally brown on both sides and all over), then this Transparent Toaster is definitely a must-buy home appliance. Unfortunately, it remains a concept at this point in time although I don’t see why it cannot be turned into reality sometime down the road. The Transparent Toaster uses transparent heating glass technology so you know exactly when to pop out that slice of bread, making unhealthy carbon deposits a thing of the past.

Google PowerPoint beta ready to roll

Google PowerPoint beta ready to rollGoogle is keeping Microsoft’s PowerPoint program in its sights by rolling out a new beta, where PowerPoint, Word and Excel copies are now collectively known as Google Docs. According to Google Docs engineering chief Sam Schillace, “Putting documents in the cloud surrounded by easy to use features for collaboration and sharing can save people hours of inefficiency and frustration and even enable new ways of working together.” Will you be making the jump over from ye olde PowerPoint when this new beta is released, or is your loyalty not swayed by free software?

USB flash drives look delicious

USB flash drives look delicious

You don’t have to always settle for boring old USB flash drives, and the Japanese certainly know how to break from boring routines with these delectable range of USB flash drives. They don’t look rectangular from any angle, instead they feature various forms of fast food like a juicy hamburger and hot dogs. Heck, you can even settle for a slice of pizza or even a sandwich! Carrying these around will definitely make you wish lunchtime came about sooner. No word on pricing, but these will be available in 1GB capacities when released in Japan.

Wii VC gets Turbografx-CD titles

Wii VC gets Turbografx-CD titles

Wii owners will be able to get their hands on classic Turbografx-CD titles soon, making it the first new console to be added to the Nintendo platform to keep original NES, SNES, N64, and Sega Genesis titles company. Hudson has just confirmed this news, and the platform will be made available to those living in Japan first followed by other regions later. There will be five totals in total for this year, while by the end of 2008 we ought to be able to see around 15 additional titles. Is retro gaming your thing, or do you prefer nothing but the latest and the greatest?
