The Zyken NightCove is definitely an interesting alarm clock - most notably for its astronomical price of $2,500. It doesn’t use the standard alarm jingle to wake you up - instead, it increases the intensitiy of light in order to slowly rouse you from your slumber the nautral way. In addition to that, you get a composition of rhythms that match your metabolism which is capable of relaxing you in the evenings while your mornings feel more charged up. I don’t know - forking out $2,500 for an alarm clock will definitely leave me with sleepless nights as I wonder just how the heck am I going to pay off the soft loan I took just to purchase the Zyken NightCove.

You never know just which madman might be standing at the corner these days, holding a gun and ready to fire at a moment’s notice. The Bullet Proof Baby Stroller will definitely appeal to paranoid parents, keeping your next generation safe from even bullets. Heck, other than an impervious body, this unique baby stroller features a shopping basket, an adjustable leg rest that grows with your baby, plastic grip handles, a multi lie-back position, soft seat fabric, and even a waterproof lined detachable hood to prevent rain from soaking your bundle of joy. Heck, there is even a 5-point harness that ensures the safety and security of your kid. No idea on how much this costs, but it definitely would come with a premium price tag over standard baby strollers.

Motion Portrait claims to have succeeded where many have failed in the past: extract 3D information from a photo and instantly turn it into an animatable computer graphics (CG) element.
Once digitized, the model can be manipulated in many ways, including get a new haircut, eye color… It can also be animated. Ok, the animation isn’t very realistic and the system probably has some severe limitation (the camera angle can’t vary too much from the original photo, the lighting seems static), but still, this is the most impressive demo of this genre that I’ve seen in a while. Video in the full post (uploading now…).

The word on the street is that Google will enable GMail to work offline very soon. That would be really practical for GMail users who might want to work in places that don’t have an internet connection (Yikes!).
Gmail offline will most likely be built usinf Google Gears, an open-source browser extension that lets developers store data locally.

The guardian is reporting that Apple can command a 40% revenue share over whatever O2 (a UK wireless operator) will make from iPhone users. It’s *huge*! (or “mad” as O2’s competitors say)
Obviously Apple’s unique position with the iPhone allows it to dictate the terms, but what about the other phone manufacturers? There are two options:
1/ Most will continue to create devices that aren’t so cool. They will therefore submit to the wireless carriers demands 2/ Many will come up with uber-sexy phones that carriers will drool on. It’s unlikely, but in this case, Apple will have more competition and the carriers win.
As we said before, Apple is currently an exception, and their success is not likely to spread to the rest of the industry.

Looks like those using Panasonic P2 High Definition cameras are in for a treat, as Panasonic has released more storage solutions in the form of P2 cards that hold up to 32GB of data. Space is definitely a premium when it comes to high definition video, as recording a movie in 720p resolution at 60fps onto an 8GB card will take up the entire card with just 8 minutes’ of video. At least with the 32GB model, you’ll be able to store half an hour’s worth of information before whipping out a replacement. The P2 cards are, in essence, four SDHC cards packed into a PCMCIA shell. No idea on how much it costs though.

The Killacycle is one mean piece of a machine, being dubbed the fastest electric motorcycle ever. Recently, it nearly lived up to its billing when owner Bill Dube accidentally rode into a parked van while showing off for the video cameras. Miraculously, he suffered no major injuries and should be able to ride the Killacycle in no time. Amazingly enough, Bill Dube did not sustain anything more than the usual bruises and cuts despite not wearing any protective gear while he was trying to perform for journalists. Well at least this accident proved one thing - the battery used in this electric bike is definitely safe even in an accident as the ultra safe cells are extremely difficult to catch fire.

The news was posted on the Dash Blog: the wirelessly connected Satelitte Navigation system has a new design that looks a whole lot better than previous models. Thanks to its GSM+WiFi connectivity, it can retrieve information like real-time traffic (is it free?) but it will hopefully access much more information and let you send routes from your PC (my personal wish).

For those who have just bought a new LCD monitor, chances are you love it to bits and want to take the very best care of it. Unfortunately, sometimes unforseen circumstances (like a running kid) could knock over your precious - this is where the LCD desk mount comes in . Whenever fixed to the edge of a desk, your LCD monitor will then be in safe ‘hands’ and not topple over like a deck of cards even when fat Billy runs into your computer table unknowingly. The LCD desk mount is said to handle displays up to 24″ in size with a maximum weight of 20 pounds. Looks like the perfect home improvement idea for those living in cramped apartments.

Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger has just signed a new bill that is now a law. This new law makes it illegal for anyone aged 16 to 17 to use a cellphone, pager, laptop, or handheld computer while driving a vehicle. The long arm of the law will only be effective when July 1 2008 rolls around, where first time offenders will be slapped with a $20 fine while repeat offenders will have to fork out $50. Hopefully this law will help reduce additional distractions when driving, and directly increasing their attention to the road. According to Arnie, “We want to eliminate any extra distractions so they can focus on paying attention to the road and being good drivers. We just don’t want to say ‘Hasta la vista, baby’ to young drivers anymore.”
