Having remotes that can detect your personal items aren’t exactly new - but have you ever wondered what happens when you lose the remote itself? GE has this brilliant idea of overcoming this problem, introducing a couple of remotes that are capable of finding up to five items which you have already designated as “lost item locator units”. The first of the two is a universal remote that functions with your TV and DVD player, while the other is a keychain. What makes this setup special is the fact that either remote can find each other. The only problem is not losing both at the same time - who’s going to change the TV channel then? After all, getting up from your lazy chair to do so is a fate worse than death itself.

The AV100 Deluxe Tabletop Aquarium is certainly an interesting addition to any home, giving your fish an environment that is by far more interesting (to both parties) than the standard, cliched fishbowl. This 2.4 gallon tank looks somewhat like a flat screen LCD monitor (and could probably fool some people as a screensaver from afar) and features integrated filtration and LED lighting. You can choose from different color frames, while the background picture can be swapped depending on your preference. You can’t rear too many fish in each AV100 Deluxe Tabletop Aquarium though as the living space is pretty limited. Each of these retail for $150 and makes for a great home improvement idea.

There is a new chassis in town from Asustek, and it comes in the form of the TH-22. This is a hardware refresh of the TM-21 and it retains all the advantages of its predecessor with one minor but important change in the power button area - the metal-like decoration surely makes the entire chassis look way more elegant compared to mirror-polished plastic. Other features include a blue LED on/off button and a hard drive indicator. There is enough room for a couple of fans, a quartet of expansion slots, seven drive bays in total, and the standard set of I/O ports. No word on pricing though.

Philips has just paraded its Swarovski studded USB flash drive at the recently concluded IFA 2007 event, bringing plenty of bling albeit holding back on the storage capacity. This heart-shaped USB flash drive comes with just 1GB of storage space which isn’t much by today’s standards. Half of the USB flash drive is studded with Swarovski crystals, and it is this half which doubles up as the cover to the USB connector as well. I personally wished it would be the other way round as it is much easier to lose the cover rather than the drive itself. This could be worn as a necklace on its own or as a cellphone charm.

Everybody loves Al Pacino and his portrayal of Tony Montana in the Scarface movie, and if you’re a big fan of him, there is always the Scarface Gun Lamp to light up your room. Bring home a piece of his little friend, where his machine gun sits atop a silver-painted base complete with a trio of bullets. The graphic lampshade comes with a couple of shots depicting Tony in his last stand. At $44.98, it is rather pricey but I believe you’re paying more for the nostalgic factor than anything else.

Forget about Post It Notes - you can now send a message to your family member over breakfast - specifically speaking, a piece of toast. This concept toasted designed by Sasha Tseng features a tiny message board that will be able to inscribe its message into the toast itself, bringing new meaning to the catchphrase “Eat my words”. Needless to say, the message board will be able to accomodate virtually any message of yours, so there is no reason to worry about this being good for a one time purchase only assuming it ever makes it into production.

Since Halloween is coming up next month, why not surprise guests with this Haunted Chandelier? It comes with an aged metal look complete with faux Spanish Moss to give your abode a relatively creepy look, and the best part is it shudders on its own as if possessed. Simulated crystals will reflect spooky lighting across all directions while the light fixture itself shakes and emits an unworldly noise. Definitely not the best lighting fixture to have in a library. You can pick one up for $69.98.

The Median C-10 portable media player is one sleek device, measuring a mere 10.5mm thin. It was recently paraded at IFA 2007 and will target the European market. Features include a 260k color TFT LCD display, 8GB of onboard memory, an SD memory card slot for expansion options, an integrated FM radio, a voice recorder, direct encoding, and SRS WOW 3D sound effects. It supports the most common audio and video file formats and will come in a choice of half a dozen colors, namely silver, white, pink, black, yellow, and green. No idea on pricing and availability at this point in time though.

Now that the dust has settled with the launch of new iPods and a price cut in the iPhone, word on the street has it that the European iPhone would come with 3G connectivity. This source also claims that memory has been bumped to 16GB (why not, considering how the new iPod Touch carries 16GB of data), while HSDPA connectivity will definitely make the Web-browsing experience all the more enjoyable. This might sound all crazy though, but when you think about it economically, with Apple dropping $200 on their 8GB iPhone’s price, it is possible to squeeze in an additional 8GB of NAND flash memory and a tri-band HSDPA radio for that price premium. I guess we’ll only find out at the Apple Expo later this month.

Everyone knows just how small the iPod Video’s screen is, but strangely enough that hasn’t stopped people from purchasing movies for it on a large scale. Apparently, the Meridian iRIS iPod Dock helps solve your squinting problem, allowing you to connect your iPod to any HDTV, letting you watch videos “on the big screen with big screen quality, clarity, and freedom from video noise, jaggies, or blocking artifacts.” Is the upconverting algorithm really that great to be able to do so? As it is, existing upconverting DVD players don’t really do that great a job with DVD quality video. Still, if you want to find out, the Meridian iRIS iPod Dock is capable of pumping out 1080p via HDMI and will set you back by $379.
