Most folks who own the iPhone would be disappointed by the lack of a custom ringtone on the device, but the iToner application for OS X salvages the situation. Concocted by Ambrosia Software, iToner 1.0.0 needs you to just drag and drop any MP3 file of your choice into the program and add it onto your iPhone, and you’re good to go. Even better news is no sort of hanky panky business was involved with the iToner, so you can rest easy knowing your iPhone will still be able to receive future updates without any hassle whatsoever. It retails for $15 a pop. Only the younger and more hip generation would find this useful - I noticed that older folks couldn’t give a rat’s behind about their ringtone of choice.

The IFA 2007 event at Berlin saw Casio release a prototype shooter that uses what probably is Sony’s 60fps 1/1.8″ CMOS sensor, capturing up to sixty 6 megapixel frames in a single second(!). Heck, it is even capable of shooting VGA video at 300fps, although I don’t see any practical application for the average home user - then again, would such a person ever pick up this monster of a digital camera? Other features include 12x optical zoom and a 2.8″ LCD display. It would be interesting to see what type of storage is used by this camera, especially when you take into consideration the high transfer speeds involved to archive that much data in an instant.

Now isn’t this just ironic - biodegradable polystyrene. Shanpu Ya and colleagues at the Polymer Science & Engineering College of Quingdao University of Science & Technology in China have apparently reached such a milestone, having applied for a patent on a biodegradable polystyrene. This material was made possible by embedding water-absorbing resin particles that expand whenever it comes into contact with water, turning the polystyrene to powder which theoretically will then be biodegradable (and ultimately, environmentally friendly). Sounds pretty neat considering the amount of non-biodegradable garbage we generate each day - it would be better to produce packaging that is recyclable in the first place isn’t it?

Samsung has a brand new line of printers that are certainly more than capable of turning heads at the office thanks to sleek new designs. Coming in an ebony black housing (a surefire method to attract fingerprints), this new line of printers eschews buttons n favor of touch sensors for a futuristic look. The ML-1630 is also touted to be the thinnest printer in the world, measuring a mere 11cm thick. Hopefully there is some substance attached to these printers as no further information concerning the release date, price, and print speeds are available.

Axiomtek has launched a spanking new low power EPIC form factor single board computer known as the EP821. Don’t expect this rig to do more than cater for your basic computing needs, since it is powered by a mere Intel Pentium M processor (you could go for the ULV Celeron M as well) and the Intel 915GME/910GMLE with ICH6M chipset. Features include a PCI-104 slot for 32-bit PCI interface add-on cards, a quartet of COM ports, and dual LVDS LCD output. No idea on how much this will cost though.

This is probably our last chance to guess what the next iPod is going to be, before the big announcement, so here’s my guess:
iPhone-looking No wheeliPhone-like UI 3.5” Display 100GB HDD, 1.8” No Wifi (I hope I’m wrong)No Satellite Radio (I doubt that XM and Apple agreed on a deal - although buying a song while listening at it on the radio would be nice!)
Basically, Apple will bring the iPhone’s sex appeal to the high-end iPod. By doing this, the company will not only improve the user interface, but it will also open the potential for applications – if both devices work on the same basic platform. Let’s wait and see…

After many recent rumors saying that the Foleo will ship “on time”, Palm has decided to kill the Foleo, its “mobile companion” project that we presented here in late May. Back then, I pointed out that there was no market for such a device and it seems that Palm realized it too. Read the letter from Palm’s CEO in the full post.

If you’re thinking of jazzing up your room with a little bit of disco light, the Laser Cosmos could play the role rather comfortably.
Imagine lying in your room, and having the ceiling whipped away to reveal the vast outreaches of the cosmos whirling overhead, complete with misty blue nebulae (which you can turn on and off!) and the occasional shooting star. Fully adjustable and requiring no set up, this super powerful space projector scatters a random panoply of sparkling green stars that will fill any room from the tiniest bedroom to the largest warehouse with a crystal clear animated star display. What’s so clever about this (apart from everything of course) is that it seems so three-dimensional, the varying brightness of different stars makes some seem close and others to come from distant galaxies.
This is made possible via green laser and holographic technology, resulting in a bright and clear has never been available before. If you want to be mesmerized, then you’ll just have to fork out £149.00 for the Laser Cosmos. More features are available after the jump.

I know, I know. Christmas is still a long way off, but it really doesn’t hurt to get new ideas on how to decorate your Christmas tree this year. Santa’s Slide Show Ornament would fit the bill perfectly, featuring an 1.5″ color LCD display that allows you to share your favorite snapshots with friends and family alike. Each of these ornaments cost $34.95, but if you pick up a pair you’ll get a $10 discount. Every purchase comes with software that enables you to download over 50 images from your computer onto the ornament itself via a USB cable. Pretty neat - you’ll never look at Christmas tree baubles the same way ever again.
