While most blimps that you see are nothing but clumsy and ugly helium-filled balloons, the Air Ray takes a different approach by being shaped after the graceful manta ray. Made by the good folks over at Festo, the Air Ray is capable of flying like the manta ray using the “Fin Ray Effect”. It currently works great indoors, but bring it outside and chances are strong winds will make short work of it just like those tiny remote-controlled helicopters.

Toyota and Sony have joined forces to develop an “armchair on wheels” which could potentially be the next-generation mode of transport in busy cities, making every nook and cranny accessible to everyone (especially the disabled). No idea on what this runs on, but chances are a large battery will be working hard behind the scenes. A commercial model is probably a long way off in the future still, so in the meantime don’t sell away your car just yet.

Toshiba has just announced the Gigabeat T401 that could lay the path for the next Zune. This flash-based DAP comes with 4GB of internal memory and features a 2.4″ LCD QVGA display, WiFi connectivity, and support for MP3, WMA, WAV, and WM DRM10 files. Sound quality is enhanced with the inclusion of Toshiba’s very own H2C Technology. It measures 85.6mm x 54mm x 9.9mm and weighs 58 grams, with no word on pricing as at press time. After all is said and done, I still wonder why can’t they throw in an AM/FM radio for added value. Will you pick this over the iPod?

Olinari has unleashed USB flash drives that come in the form of dog tags. While they look pretty ordinary on the outside, the bottom can be opened up to reveal an extremely small 2GB Sony Micro Vault USB drive. I would have preferred this to come in a microSD variant instead since Sony’s proprietary media is way more expensive than the humble microSD. The Olinari Silver USB Dog Tag will be released this fall with 2GB of storage space for $349 upwards. Guess you’re paying through your nose for a bling-enhanced portable storage device.

Right now Amazon.com is offering 3 additional free HD DVD movies along with the already great promo of 5 free HD DVD movies that’s been going on for a few months now. To be fair it’s really only 2 extra movies with the XBOX 360 HD add-on drive since King Kong already comes with the drive. Anyway you slice it you get 8 HD-DVD movies and the drive for $179! Also the 8 free movies deal works with the purschase of a Toshiba HD DVD standalone player. The ClearChat Pro is presented by Logitech as being a “high-quality” headset for your multimedia activities on the computer. Audiophiles will probably find that the term “high-quality” is overstated here, but Skype is certainly not going to push the envelope on sound quality anyway. The device has easy-to-access volume and mute controls and the (background) noise-cancelling microphone should help keep conversations clear. Overall, the design is good and small details like the “mute” light indicator, or the one-click equalizer makes this headset stand out a little in an extremely commoditized sector. $49.99
At $39.99 MSRP, the ClearChat comfort it is just a little cheaper than the “ClearChat Pro”, and has pretty much the same rotating, noise-cancelling microphone, but apparently the sound quality won’t be as good: Logitech says that it has “laser-tuned speaker drivers” on the “Pro”, whatever that means…

Leadtek has just unveiled the WinFast DVR3100 H TV tuner card that boasts support for digital terrestrial, analog TV, DVB-T, FM radio, stereo/SAP and HDTV/AC3. Now that’s a whole bunch of formats you can look forward to, courtesy of the MPEG 2 encoder. Since it features an exclusive multiple video processing mode, you can hook up to two TV cards and four channel program processing simultaneously, in addition to an all-in-one I/R sensor remote control for comfortable viewing. Other functions include time shifting and scheduled power-up. No idea on how much it costs though, but if you are too lazy to walk from your computer to the TV in the living room, the WinFast DVR3100 H could prove to be an answer to your prayers.

Nokia has just unveiled the Power Pack DC-1 that gives you portable battery power even when there is no power outlet in sight. The Power Pack DC-1 has the equivalent juice of three 950mAh batteries, which means your handset that normally lasts for 4 days of regular use could be stretched to a couple of weeks. It is available globally and will retail for approximately 150 Euros before taxes. It would be cool if Nokia allowed the Power Pack DC-1 to be charged via USB. In fact, every device should these days for everybody’s convenience.
