It’s true and Engadget has the proof!! Here is a blurb:”It’s high noon, Apple and AT&T—we really hate to break it to you, but the jig is up. Last night the impossible was made possible: right in front of our very eyes we witnessed a full SIM unlock of our iPhone with a small piece of software. It’s all over, guys. The iPhoneSIMfree.com team called us up to prove their claim that they cracked Apple’s iPhone SIM lock system, and prove it they did. (No, we don’t have a copy of the unlock software, so don’t even ask us, ok?) The six-man team has been working non-stop since launch day, and they’re officially the first to break Apple’s SIM locks on the iPhone. It’s done. Seriously. They wouldn’t tell us when and how they would release it to the public, but you can certainly bet that they’ll try to make a buck on their solution (and rightly so). We can hardly believe the iPhone’s finally been cracked. No, scratch that—we just can’t believe it took this long.Again: we can confirm with 100% certainty that iPhoneSIMfree.com’s software solution completely SIM unlocks the iPhone, is restore-resistant, and should make the iPhone fully functional for users outside of the US. Read on for details and links to our video, and check out the gallery of images below.”http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/24/iphone-unlocked-atandt-loses-iphone-exclusivity-august-24-2007/

The SKY IM-U210 is touted to support 7.2Mbps HSDPA speeds, although real life performance will be a fraction of that so don’t get too carried away just yet. Sony Japan has just announced that its latest fuel cell battery eschews ethanol and methanol in favor of glucose as its source of power. The 4-cell array was demonstrated to power speakers hooked up to a Network Walkman after being duly filled with a squirt of grape extract and a tiny fan, utilizing sugar content found in a Gatorade-type sports drink. The Bio Battery, as it is dubbed, is capable of generating up to 50mW of power. I’m all for it, but I surely hope ants won’t start end up starting a colony in my gadgets.

Epson has just launched the V500 Photo color scanner that will probably end up in the hands of advanced amateur shutterbugs. Priced at a reasonable $250, the V500 utilizes Epson’s ReadyScan LED technology that does away with the warm-up time and drastically reduces scanning time. The 6,400dpi scanner comes in handy, allowing you to increase the size of photos up to a massive 17″ x 22″ from film or standard prints. For those who want to preserve their negatives, the V500 scans these as well in slides and medium format. Each purchase will ship with Digital ICE and Epson Easy Photo Fix programs.

Olympus has unveiled three new cameras in its FE line, bringing the words ‘fun’ and ‘easy’ into the world of photography. One of the most outstanding feature would be the “Smile Shot” that will take portraits only when the subjects in the photograph smile. The FE-280, FE-290, and FE-300 that retails for $200, $250, and $300 respectively are pretty much the same, sharing a 2.5″ LCD display with 3x optical zoom. The main difference would be the megapixel count that stands at 8, 7, and 12 in ascending order. I wonder whether making funny faces during a photo shoot is categorized as a “smile” by the sensor.

Remember the Coneheads? Well, I can’t help but think that the same applies to this old school Megatron and Optimus Prime fans that come with removable tops (hence their enlarged cranium) which store a soft fan blade. So far all indicators point toward these fans being a Japan exclusive, and it also comes in Ultraman, Spiderman, Batman, and Superman models. They’re probably a novelty but would make a pretty good stocking stuffer. Heck, I’m itching for one myself.

Samsung engineers must have been working overtime with the release of five more handsets. First off we have the SGH-E848 that lays claim to the title “World’s slimmest cellphone” with its measurement of 101.5mm x 52.5mm x 10.6mm - although I thought that other handsets had already broken that barrier. Additional features include a 2 megapixel camera with 4x zoom, 70MB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, a speakerphone, Mp3 playback capability, and a document viewer. For further description on the other four handsets, kindly read on after the jump.

VIA has developed a new fanless Eden ULV processor that chugs along at 500MHz, requiring just 1 watt of electricity to run. Whenever it is idle, the processor will sip a mere tenth of a watt - talk about efficiency! The low power requirements found in this new processor will target firms that design and engineer embedded systems which require low power consumption, while those looking for an eco-friendly design will definitely welcome this development. There will be 1GHz and 1.5GHz versions that consume 3.5 and 7.5 watts respectively as well in case you need more juice. When will such power saving measures reach the mass consumer market? Then we don’t need those huge 600W monstrosities, unless you are running on a dual video card setup to meet Bioshock requirements.

Sony has upped the ante when it comes to functionality of its PSP console, bringing Go!Messenger to the fore that empowers users with text, voice, and video chat capabilities. While chatting with your friends using MSN Messenger and the on-screen keyboard might be excruciatingly slow, there is always the option to use VoIP functionality over a WiFi network. After all, it sure beats navigating through the on-screen keyboard taking all 10 minutes to type out a sentence. Go!Messenger is free for all Sony PSP owners and comes with the next firmware upgrade.

Isn’t this an irony? The Creative Zen Stone made out of…wood? This is a labor of love that measures much bigger than the actual Zen Stone itself at 8.25″ x 5.5″ x 2″. The internal components do not comprise of actual Zen parts, but you do get up to 4GB of storage space thanks to an SD memory card slot. There is no word on whether this will be put up for sale or not, but I believe this will sell like hot cakes when mass produced.
