Looks like Oral-B is on a warpath against the threat of tartar and plaque in everybody’s teeth, with September being the month where they unveil the Triumph toothbrush with SmartGuide. The Triumph is an electronic toothbrush that communicates with the SmartGuide device wirelessly, where the latter features a small battery-operated LCD display that lets you know just how much longer you ought to concentrate in that particular area of your mouth. Even settings for sensitive cleaning, massaging, and polishing can be set for that million dollar smile after each brushing session. At the end of the process, the LCD display will show a digital smile. If this can’t get your kids to brush their teeth every night (despite the use of fruit flavored toothpaste), I don’t think anything else will. The entire Triumph/SmartGuide set will set you back by approximately $150 though.

Paper scanners are great peripherals for the modern computer. They let us bring papers, documents, and photos from the real, physical world into the virtual, digital one. However they are usually big, bulky devices that require a lot of space or, in the case of most portable models, time to set up. And the typical scanner still needs a computer or notebook to operate. So what if you could have a portable scanner that did not need a computer, could be easily carried anywhere, and can make a scan of any document, photo, magazine, or book. Well now you can with the Planon DocuPen RC800.The RC800 is a full color, 24-bit scanner in a compact, lightweight form that provides a convenient way to scan full page documents on-the-go. With the included 128 MB memory card, the RC800 can store many pages into memory with each page only taking a few seconds to scan. Using the on-board controls, you can select B&W/Color/24-Bit Color and 100 / 400 dpi resolution. Read our full review of the Planon DocuPen Portable Color Scanner

There are people who would purchase a device simply because it comes in a color that they love, never mind the lack of functionality. How is this possible? Just take a look around you and see who picks up a gizmo just because it comes in his/her favorite color. LG certainly has not let this group escape their attention, launching the Colorholic cellphone that targets the female demographic. You can choose from 14 different colors such as bubble pink, light blue, yellow, and orange among others. Other features of this slider handset includes MP3 playback capability, and a text-to-speech engine that is smart enough to read out messages and appointments without having you look at it. Hopefully your mistress won’t text you while you’re driving with your wife in the car! Sad to say, the Colorholic handset will be a Korea-only affair, retailing for $430 a pop.

I guess in many aspects, the Sole Mio mouse is pretty much like a reptile that needs to bask in the sun. Why so, you ask? The answer is pretty simple - it recharges itself as long as there is some semblance of sunlight in the vicinity. I suppose those who sit beside the window at the office are the ones who benefit greatly from the Sole Mio, but as for the rest of us, why don’t you just stick to a wired mouse that draws power from the computer directly? Then again, you have a very good excuse not to get any work done during those cloudy days if you’re using the Sole Mio mouse.

The Thomson A1 is hailed as the smallest personal media player in the world, featuring a 3″ widescreen TFT display that appears to take up virtually the entire front part. Specifications wise, it is nothing much to shout about, with an integrated FM tuner and support for both popular audio and video formats making the list. The A1 will soon arrive in China in two flavors - 4GB and 8GB, where the former retails for $120 and the latter is not much less expensive at $106. No idea if these will ever make their way Stateside, but don’t expect too much fanfare if they do.

Just in case you cannot afford to pick up one of those high powered electric Tesla Roadsters, perhaps something more suited to your budget like the Zeo-X off-road bike will suffice. It isn’t exactly cheap though at $6,900, but think of all the fuel you’ll be saving in the long run, not to mention doing away with your carbon monoxide contribution when traveling. This bike weighs just 120lbs, giving it a pretty zippy acceleration and decent handling. It takes approximately three hours for a full recharge, and has a range of 40 miles before needing more juice. Looks like a pretty safe bet for intra-city traveling.
