Expansys is currently making available the UBiQUiO 503G Windows Mobile Pocket PC smartphone that runs on Windows Mobile 6 Professional and is powered by a 520 MHz Marvell/Qualcomm 6280 processor. This is a pretty high end smartphone, considering it comes with stereo Bluetooth connectivity, WiFi (b/g), GSM, and UMTS/HSDPA wireless data. A QWERTY keyboard enables you to compose text messages in a cinch, while 192MB ROM and 96MB RAM along with a microSD memory card slot handles all your data storage needs. The 2 megapixel camera takes great candid shots, but unfortunately the 2.4″ touchscreen comes with just QVGA support at 240 x 320 resolution. Expansys Europe is making this smartphone available for £389.95 while MobilePlanet will release this on September 5th for $649.95.

Kitchen timers are supposed to be utilitarian devices and not look as cute as Mr. Chin, but thankfully Alessi decided to go against the grain by coming up with a stereotypical image for a kitchen timer. The timer itself is made from thermoplastic resin and is hand decorated for that personal touch. It can be set for any time up to an hour. As with most folks from ancient China, they come from a rather large family, so you can always groove with the other Chins thanks to the Mr. Chin Egg Cup and the Mr. & Mrs. Chin Salt and Pepper Set. The Mr. Chin Kitchen Timer currently retails for $45 a pop.

Garmin has just dropped an announcement concerning the nuvi 260’s availability in the US. Described as a “sleek, simple-to-use, and value-priced personal navigation device”, Garmin certainly wasn’t kidding when it comes pre-loaded with maps of the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico along with roughly 6 million points of interest. The nuvi 260 is also adept at calling out street names, letting you know which street you should turn into instead of obeying its voice blindly. Each nuvi 260 also comes with the patent pending theft prevention system known as Garmin Lock, requiring the user to enter a 4 digit PIN to enable it. This relatively affordable personal navigation device will hit the US this month for $499.99.

Sophia Mobile has recently unveiled the NANI PDA phone that runs on Windows CE 6.0 in Japan. This Japan-only communications device not only comes with a 4.3″ widescreen WVGA display, it also features WiFi connectivity and accepts a W-SIM wireless card for a true mobile office. The display is huge enough to enjoy your favorite movies on-the-go as the NANI supports a wide variety of multimedia formats such as MPEG, DivX, XviD, WAV, WMA, MP3, and Ogg Vorbis. Other features include an Office Viewer, GPS navigation, a microSD memory card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a miniUSB port. Sounds pretty complete to me - I wonder what the battery life is like.

Pong is one of the most famous video game classics around, and it still garners interest even until today. While the game has been made available across a wide range of platforms, ever wondered how Pong would look like on a 500 sq. ft. screen? That question is answered in this DIY project that requires a couple of LED light curtains with Pong running as the brain. Each curtain (measuring 16 x 33 feet) is equipped with thousands of LEDs that act as individual pixels to bring you true-to-life Pong like never before. I suppose such setups would be great for gaming conventions and the like.

Androids are not exempted from the law of atrophy, and they too, grow old in time. How so, you ask? Well, they basically melt in due time. Both the Actroid and Repliee series of androids that were concocted in Japan come with silicone skin, and this type of skin definitely don’t stand up too well against the test of time since it liquifies within a year. This means companies will have to replace their skin every year if they were to look prim and proper, and that isn’t exactly cheap either. Thankfully those silicone companion dolls don’t deteriorate at the rate of androids, but it would be cool to see how silicone skin advancements will change the landscape of androids being employed in public service.

There are many gaming traditions that the Nintendo Wii has already broken so far, and the jury is still out on whether casual gaming will be the death of hardcore video gaming, or will it give rise to a new generation of gamers who will migrate from casual games to more serious titles? The Wii Fit is definitely something new, and not only breaks barriers in terms of how games are played, it surpasses the $50 price tag attached to most Wii games as well. Wii Fit will retail for $69.99 when it debuts in Japan later this year, with a US release to follow next year. Word on the street has it that Wii Fit will be bundled with the Wii console in due time while maintaining the $250 sticker price.

Five Star has decided to keep up with the times by unveiling the Sound binders that come with lightweight speakers built inside, along with a front pocket that holds your iPod or any other compatible MP3 player. These binders are also made with a durable cover that helps keep your paperwork inside safe from becoming creased and dirty. There is a wide range of colors to choose from, ranging from black with blue to red, white or pink. Presumably these speakers are powered via the MP3 player itself, so make sure your digital audio device is fully charged before you take it out for a spin.
