Lenovo targets China with low-cost PCs

August 6th, 2007

Lenovo targets China with low-cost PCsLenovo has just dropped an announcement that it will introduce a low-cost computer that targets China’s vast rural population in order to bridge the vast digital divide in the rest of the country. This new computer will retail for a mere $199 and can be plugged into the TV, pre-loaded with educational software. You can choose from 40GB or 80GB varieties, with Windows XP being the operating system of choice. I know that TVs are dirt cheap these days (for those fat CRTs of course), but will the rural folks be able to fork out money for the TV as well? Anyway, resolution on such TVs are notoriously poor compared to a regular computer monitor, so perhaps starting an optometry practice there would be a good idea.
