One of the most embarassing moments would be attending a function while wearing the same dress as another person. Should that happen, it is often the accessories worn that make one rose stand out from the other. U-GlowLites decided to make your bling even more obvious by throwing in the ability to blink which is guaranteed to attract the entire room’s attention. Some of these fashion accessories include a tunnel light necklace, a star ring, a rose jelly ring, a heart ring, a heart bracelet and necklace, and a spike choker among others. The average accessory will cost a wee bit under $2, and with the option to buy these in bulk, it makes a great door gift at parties and other social functions.

While oil and water don’t mix, LG Philips has decided otherwise by filing a patent that combines both oil and water capsule technology that will be used in an electronic ink display, fused with Organic LED (OLED) technology found in flexible displays. Since pixels are created out of minuscule capsules of oil and water instead of OLEDs, you won’t run the risk of higher production costs and a large defect rate associated with ‘cooking’ in flexibled displays. Opaque oil stored within the colored capsule will obscure its color until a current passes through, whereby oil will be forced out of the way and changing the pixel’s color in the process. There is still plenty of work to be done before such a display with a fast refresh rate and low power consumption is released, but this is a step in the right direction.

The Beacon is a device developed under the Tancher Electronics Social Safety Initiative (TESSI), aiming to help governments and industries to make life saving devices more accessible to the masses. The Beacon emits a distress signal to aid rescue workers in locating the wearer quickly, which greatly increases the chances of survival. Not only that, the device doubles up as a USB flash drive, making it useful even when you’re not trapped underneath some caved in rubble. It would be nice to see some other functions thrown in such as a watch and a mini flashlight, but I suppose power is of the utmost importance during an emergency, so throwing those battery-sapping functions are not exactly a brilliant idea.

So you’re stuck in an office environment where everybody is a walking chimney. Short of changing jobs, there is an alternative in the form of the USB-powered Oil Burner. This device requires you to drop some fragrance oil in the cross-shaped hole (anywhere from 3 to 5 drops are good enough for the entire day), plug in the USB Oil Burner and you’re good to go. Measuring 66mm x 22mm x 7mm, this is somewhat as large as those receivers that come with wireless optical mice. Choose from rose, red peppermint, or green colors for $7 each. Your immediate surroundings ought to start smelling so much better already the moment this is plugged in.

“Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is,” mentions Master Yoda. The same can be said for teenage brains, as a couple of teens from Ontario have built an electric vehicle that resembles a motorcycle, save for the exclusion of hand steering controls. In order to get around, the rider leans towards the direction of the desired motion in a similar manner to the Segway. This ride is also environmentally friendly, producing zero emissions that makes it suitable for city use. Known as the Tango, it uses a R6 Yamaha sports bike frame and has a top speed of 40 mph, giving the rider the same experience as riding on a motorcycle. Accelerometers are used to measure acceleration as well as detect the rider’s location and wheel control. Would you pick this up if it was commercialized?

No idea why would you want to keep yourself entertained with videos while scuba diving, but the Chinavision PMP allows you that luxury should the strange need ever arise. Plenty more could be done in the aesthetics department, but you are limited by a depth of 3 meters as the Chinavision PMP will crack under pressure if you venture any deeper. Videos must be in AMV format, but thankfully each purchase comes with conversion software. The 1GB storage space will probably last longer than the amount of air you have with you, and it does help that the 1.8″ display supports a maximum resolution of 128 x 128 pixels at 15 fps. Great for watching mimes and Charlie Chaplin flicks whle you’re submerged.

For those who are still living in the past, I’m sure that you cling onto your VHS collection without showing any signs of letting go. Sony wants you to make that leap to DVD (although HD DVD and Blu-ray are slowly encroaching upon DVD’s territory) with this One Touch VHS-to-DVD unit. All you need to do is pop in your ageing VHS tapes (if they’re still working and are not moldy that is) and a blank DVD, press a button, and see everything transferred to a digital media. Heck, it even goes so far as to upscale video to 720p/1080i. You can pick this up this August, but the sticker price of $400 is rather off putting. Ah well, the price to pay for preserving your favorite memories.

Feline lovers, take note! The Holga K202 Cat Camera is bound to get you clawing for the nearest purse/wallet to check just how much you have to pick one up. As any adult knows, getting kids to pose in front of a camera is an extremely challenging task. The Holga K202 Cat Camera helps you capture their attention for that picture perfect moment by emitting a meowing sound, although the effectiveness of such a tactic remains questionable. You’ll be disappointed to know that this is a 35mm camera, so there’re hidden costs such as film processing fees to deal with. The Holga K202 Cat Camera is available for $29.99.

Electronics loathe water and moisture, and the same goes for your iPod. The Allsop Splash Pack DriPod is different, however, as it is capable of preventing your iPod from getting wet no matter where you bring it thanks to a waterproof, air tight soft case. Not only does it keep your iPod dry, it also works with other electronic devices that are similar in nature. A triple seal and heat-sealed headphone jack enables you to submerge this up to 10 feet of water without experiencing any breach. Even when the iPod is placed within, you can still access its controls. Sounds like the perfect summer present to frolic by the pool. The Allsop Splash Pack DriPod retails for $19.99. How many of you bring your iPods to the beach or pool?
