How do you fancy a piece of furniture that changes its color according to your current mood and weight? The Japanese have come up with the Fuwapica table and chairs set that changes color in response to the weight and positioning of the user in addition to built-in sensors that determine the color of items on the table in order to complement the environment with a matching color of its own. The Fuwapica interactive technology will no doubt be more than a design exercise, with word of commercial production beginning in a couple of years’ time at worst. Interested parties can pick up the Honeycomb and Ice chairs now for a preview of what the future will look like for $3,520 and $1,510 a pop.

Everyone loves dressing up their gadgets these days, and Philips is sensitive towards this trend by making available Active Crystals accessories in the Korean market. This line of accessories consist of high-end USB flash drives and a earphone that come studded with beautiful Swarovski crystals. The addition of such bling definitely adds more weight to the final product price, so be prepared to fork out anywhere between $220 to $330 for the Active Crystals. I just wonder about the wisdom of getting a computer accessory that will probably get outdated in a few years’ time. You can’t exactly pry out all those crystals to ‘recycle’ them on other items then, can you?

Logitec of Japan has just unveiled its LCM-TP1701AD/S 17″ LCD monitor that claims to feature razor sharp images for your viewing pleasure. It boasts a contrast ratio of 700 to 1, a brightness level of 300cd/m2, and a 160 degree viewing angle (although 178 degrees would’ve been preferable). Maximum resolution stands at 1,280 x 1,024 which should be more than sufficient for everyday use. What makes this Logitec offering interesting is the inclusion of a 2mm thick protective filter made from hardened glass that prevents dust and humidity from affecting the monitor adversely. You can even lock the OSD menu to prevent people from tinkering around with your preferred settings. Sounds like a pretty full-featured monitor for everyday Joes like you and I.

AT&T has just announced that it will carry the Pantech C150 cellphone for those who are interested in picking up this Korean-inspired candybar cellphone. Measuring exactly half an inch thick, the C150 is a budget phone that doesn’t skimp on its looks. Features include a VGA camera (meh) with flash (now that’s nice), Bluetooth connectivity, and GPRS connectivity for casual on-the-go Internet surfing. You can pick it up for $200, or get it for free if you tie yourself down with a 2-year contract. I wonder if the Pantech C150 smudges all too easily, picking up unwanted marks due to its white body. Do you prefer to go black or white with your handset?

Sky has just launched its latest handset, the Shooting Star in Korea. Also known as the IM-U200, this rotating clamshell celllphone looks like a spaceship when closed. Features include Bluetooth-based wireless Personal Area Network for wireless headset compatibility and hands-free calls, a 1.3 megapixel camera, an electronic dictionary, and a text viewer. It will hit Korean markets this week for approximately $545 after conversion. I must say the keypad looks a tad uncomfortable to type on, but this is a rather pricey phone for such meager features. Guess you’re paying more for its looks than anything else.

Looks like Toshiba isn’t pulling any punches with its TransMemory family of USB flash drives, with news of a 32GB model hitting the streets by the end of this year. You’ll be able to pick up 1GB to 8GB models this October, and all of them are Windows ReadyBoost compatible to give your Vista experience more “wow”. Pricing details for the 8GB and 32GB TransMemory models are $200 and $665 respectively. Guess coupling the 32GB TransMemory USB flash drive with a NAND flash drive on your notebook will turn it into a venerable computing device in an instant. The price might be a little bit hard to swallow for most people, but those looking to squeeze out every iota of potential won’t mind forking out that kind of money. As for me, I could do waiting for a few more seconds as Windows boots up.

Samsung has added another first to its list of achievements, and this time it involved a LCD display with a DisplayPort interface. This 30″ screen will utilize the impossibly high 10.8Gbps bandwidth of the new video connector, capable of displaying a mouth watering 2,560 x 1,600 resolution image without getting the help of dual links. This new screen also boasts a new Genesis chipset which enables it to display up to a billion colors at 10 bits per pixel - more colors than a Care Bear could shake a stick at. This LCD panel has yet to be named, but it could roll off production lines by next year. Smaller screen sizes are possible, although there was no news about those being made commercially available anytime soon.

Oppo has unveiled what is said to be the thinnest portable media player in the market so far with the Blast. This device measures slimmer than most svelte cellphones at a mere 6.9mm despite boasting a relatively large LCD display. Features include a touch sensitive keypad as well as support for a wide variety of audio and video formats. There is no word on pricing and availability, although it will be released in China first and foremost. There is no integrated flash memory with this, so that will help drive down the retail price. Content is carried via a microSD memory card slot which is pretty cheap these days. Just make sure you don’t lose them critters as they’re smaller than a normal-sized fingernail. While this won’t kill the iPod nano, at least it offers an alternative.
