PDA gets tough too little, too late

PDA gets tough too little, too lateThe PDA was the in thing in the last decade as executives ditched their leather-bound notebooks for something more high tech. Unfortunately, smartphones and BlackBerries have since made the PDA irrelevant and confined it to niche usage. The Recon 200X from Tripod Data Systems is nothing but a plain ol’ PDA, but boy is it one tough nut to crack. It runs on Windows Mobile 5 and boasts military standard specifications that make it able to withstand drops, vibrations, and extreme temperatures without missing a beat. Sounds pretty good to have, but unfortunately it costs $2,000 to carry one around. You could probably use this in lieu of a hammer when eating crabs though.

UVEX Univision Magic goggles

UVEX Univision Magic gogglesUVEX has unveiled the Univision Magic goggles that uses LCD technology which removes the need to lug around a couple of goggles whenever you hit the slopes. The Magic comes with a VALiD lens, where the light lens kicks in automatically in a low light situation, but whenever the sun creeps up on your suddenly, the light lens will instantly be tinted dark when a switch is triggered, causing the liquid crystals located between the double lens to be jolted into position. Desktop Disco Mouse is groovy

Desktop Disco Mouse is groovy

Check out this Desktop Disco Mouse that might actually spark off that dancing mood in you. All you need to do is plug it into your computer’s USB port and the disco ball mouse will start flashing whenever it is used. The accompanying mousepad features five shadows figures who are sweating it out on the dance floor, making it the perfect companion to a glowing disco ball you call the mouse. Features are pretty standard, ranging from the two buttons to the scroll wheel. The Desktop Disco Mouse retails for £9.95 a pop. It doesn’t look too ergonomic in my books, and shares more than a passing resemblance to a ladybird by all accounts.

Space Invaders tell the time

Space Invaders tell the time

You might recognize Space Invaders to be the game where a lone spaceship defends the earth from an impending alien invasion, but Jason has taken this classic game and turned it into a timepiece with some D.I.Y. wizardry. Cobbling together a propeller chip that produces flicker-free video and a discarded Sony portable TV, this Space Invaders Clock tells the time with in-game graphics. For example, the number of aliens represent the minutes (0 to 59) while extra lives indicate the current hour. Alternatively, if you’re in a rush and can’t be bothered to count up to 59 aliens, there is a shortcut in telling the time by reading out the last 4 digits of the high score. Neat!

FOMA F704i is waterproof

FOMA F704i is waterproof

The FOMA F704i cellphone boasts waterproof functionality, letting you continue talking even when it is pouring cats and dogs and you’re drenched to the bone. I wouldn’t recommend that though, as other than running the risk of catching a cold, you could also get struck by lighting. The FOMA F704i features FOMA World Ring that works all across the globe, a 1.3 megapixel camera, an integrated MP3 player with WMA support, and Napster to Go functionality. Bear in mind you can’t go scuba diving with this though as it is only waterproof up to 3m in depth, but at least you can continue yakking to your friends while taking a shower.
