Brando plays Santa Claus

Brando plays Santa Claus

Brando has a couple of Gift Sets for either gender, and they come in full plastic glory complete with a wee bit of electronics. The USB Gift Set for Men features a USB-powered Mini Vacuum Cleaner (great for cleaning out the innards of your crumb-laden keyboard), a USB Cup Warmer (gotta keep that cuppa joe warm), and a USB Mood Light Pen Holder (didn’t know men would make their moodiness show). As for the ladies, they get the same vacuum cleaner and mood light pen holder, a USB Fan (to dry the latest manicure session), and a USB Lighter Mirror (to check if the mascara is running). Either set retails for $29.50 each, with the former being silver in color while the latter sports a garish pink. More pictures of the USB Gift Set for Ladies after the jump.

Soundwave receives upgrade

Soundwave receives upgrade

Looks like the maligned Decepticon, Soundwave, has received a modern day upgrade that would surely please his long suffering fans. Takara Tomy of Japan has thrown in MP3 playback capability by replacing the ancient tape deck with an SD memory card slot. Of course, what is a Transformer if he cannot change into his classic rectangle boombox form factor? This updated version of Soundwave retails for approximately $100 and looks to be worth every penny.

NTT DoCoMo targets oldies with F883iES

NTT DoCoMo targets oldies with F883iES

NTT DoCoMo has not forgotten about the growing older population in Japan, launching the F883iES handset which is also known as the RakuRaku Phone IV (rakuraku being ‘comfortable’ or ‘easy’). The F883iES is capable of informing the user’s location to his family with a simple touch, and when users speak their destination with their voice, it will automatically display the corresponding map. There is also a ‘Super Clear Voice’ function that increases the speaker volume automatically whenever it detects that the user’s environment is too noisy for a decent conversation. Sure beats going ‘Excuse me?’ for the umpteenth time.

Light Bulb with built-in alarm

Light Bulb with built-in alarm

At first glance this looks like your regular light bulb, but turning it around will reveal a LCD display that shows the current time, date, and temperature readouts. This battery-powered device not only keeps tabs on the above mentioned, it is also capable of cycling through a myriad of colors thanks to the color-cycling LED inside. This is definitely an interesting contraption to have by your bedside, and could do much better at putting your child to sleep at night than the hundredth time of reading how Rapunzel let down her hair from a tower. For those who are interested, this unique home decorative item retails for a mere $12 after conversion.

USB Can Cooler and Warmer

USB Can Cooler and Warmer

Don’t you just hate it when you’ve just pulled out a can of ice cold Coke, ready to gulp its contents only to have your boss call you in for a lengthy lecture on the importance of teamwork? When you return to your desk, all you’re faced with is a warm Coke which just tastes absolutely terrible. The USB Can Cooler and Warmer from Brando helps negate this problem, combining both cooling and warming technology to keep your beverage chilled or warm for a longer period of time while you’re away from your desk. Switching from “Chill” to “Warm” is as simple as activating the two-way switch. It retails for $32 each, making this a great addition to any cubicle.

Gesture-based remote control

Gesture-based remote control

Scientists from Australia have managed to develop a remote that tracks your hand gestures and translating them into commands. This device comes with a camera to see what your hand is doing, convert the signal and send it to the appropriate device via a universal remote control. In fact, it is able to work just fine under all lighting situations, giving us none of the problems that accompanied the EyeToy. For example, a clenched fist means “start” while an outstretched hand with closed fingers signifies “power on”. A consumer-ready device will probably be released in three years’ time, although the relevance of such a product by then (let alone now) is rather questionable.

Net Cowboy webcam gives extra shine

Net Cowboy webcam gives extra shine

Webcams are just about the same no matter the manufacturer, or are they? The Net Cowboy takes a different route as it features a swashbuckling 1.3 megapixel sensor and seven LEDs to light up your face while you chat away online. Each purchase comes with some software that lets you check out what’s happening with the webcam remotely from your cellphone. Just remember to wipe off all the extra oil from your face before you go for an online video conference, as the additional light will probably give you an unwanted sheen.

Look ma, no hands!

Look ma, no hands!

Check out this concept video camera that doesn’t require the use of any hands, designed by Johan Frossen. All you need to do is fit it over your eye to record whatever you see. This makes it great when people want to make video autobiographies in the future, giving the viewers a much more realistic experience when words of a pen (or the typing of the keyboard) cannot properly express the moment. This tiny device fits around your neck and carries no internal memory, instead it streams whatever is recorded to a computer in real time through a wireless network. I guess the drawback is your recording is limited to the wireless network range which is a bummer.

Glowfish lights up your bath time

Glowfish lights up your bath timeTaking a bath is relaxing, but having the help of scented candles and a soothing light definitely helps enhances the atmosphere. The Glowfish comes in the form of a giant goldfish, and lights up automatically whenever it is placed into a bath. Whenever the Glowfish comes into contact with water, it will start to entertain you with a color phasing light show. The internal battery is capable of up to 38 hours of relaxing light, but I have no idea whether these can be replaced or not or do we need to purchase a brand new Glowfish. The Glowfish measures 19cm x 8cm x 7cm and retails for £6.95 each.
