CristalLine displays holographic images

CristalLine displays holographic imagesImagine a totally transparent projection screen that looks like a piece of glass when not in use, and yet producing crystal clear images that seem to be holograms floating in mid-air. Scupper that though - the CristalLine display does just that, featuring glass and acrylic screens that come in flat sheets which can be manipulated in different ways to produce a unique projection media. Screens up to 135″ in size will be available, but you can also piece together several screens should the need for a larger display be required. Even better is the news that such transparent screens can project resolutions higher than 1080p if the projector is good enough. Looks like those holographic images projected by R2-D2 can now be realized in cinemas and public places alike.

Navigon 5100 and 7100 GPS systems

Navigon 5100 and 7100 GPS systems

Navigon has the 5100 and 7100 GPS systems that will definitely be an interesting proposition when it hits the U.S., offering subscription-free real-time traffic data. Now how’s that for value for money? In addition, you also get Zagat Survey ratings, reviews for Points of Interests, Reality View, and Lane Assistant to help you arrive at your destination safe and sound. Reality View turns everything into 3D, including complicated highway interchanges, while Lane Assistant gives you the shortest route possible. The Navigon 7100 offers Bluetooth connectivity which the 5100 lacks. The 7100 and 5100 will retail for $649 and $500 respectively when they ship.

Lincoln door opens differently

Lincoln door opens differently

This black 1993 Lincoln Mk 8 is no ordinary car as you can see, not especially when Ford has commissioned Jaalta Design Inc. to come up with an interesting proposition of a door opening mechanism for your car. Instead of opening outwards like every other good car door should, it slides downwards underneath the car just like how a certain vehicles in a sci-fi movie do. Now having one of these would be pretty useful especially when your car is sandwiched between a couple of other cars that have owners who do not know how to park properly. You can currently own this unique vehicle for $20,000 on eBay. Great for those who want to impress their dates on prom night, too bad you’ll have to bug dad for months on end without any sure sign that he’ll give in.

Light Weight Robot human-friendly

Light Weight Robot human-friendlyThe service sector is often a difficult one, as dealing with humans are far more challenging than just ‘talking’ to a computer. KUKA from Japan has developed the Light Weight Robot (LWR) that could be a precursor to intelligent machines which perform service-oriented roles side by side with humans. Currently designed for industry-level environments, the LWR comes embedded with sensors, letting it detect human counterparts in order to work better in a more harmonious manner. I can just forsee a future that involves a human packing up some stuff on the assembly line with this robot performing a double check

Food Fresh keeps snacks at their prime

Food Fresh keeps snacks at their primeIf you’re going to keep snacks that have already been opened fresh, the Food Fresh device fits the bill perfectly. This transparent container comes with a built-in Electronic Pump that removes air from within, creating a vacuum-sealed container in the process. The Food Fresh works best when extending the freshness of pastries, bread, and even fruits. All it takes is just a couple of minutes to create the vacuum seal, with an indicator light ensuring the airtight freshness within. There is even a date indicator on top to remind you of just how long the contents have been sitting inside. The Food Fresh container can be powered by an AC adapter or a quartet of D batteries when traveling. It retails for $69.95. Great for those who are always on-the-go and have no time to enjoy fresh food as it is.

iLive Flat Panel Docking System

iLive Flat Panel Docking System

Now this is one truly long speaker dock system, and the iLive Flat Panel Docking System uses a virtual surround sound bar to get the audio message across in a small room. It works with virtually any device ranging from DVD players to computers, TVs, and other audio players thanks to USB connectivity. To leave out the iPod would be sacrilegous, which is why the iLive Flat Panel Docking System also boasts a special, custom-built motorized tray that fits the iPod snugly. Features include an AM/FM tuner, a backlit LCD clock with built-in alarm, and station memory presets. The iLive Flat Panel Docking System will stretch your wallet a little at $350, but it sure looks good in any living room.

Angel Kitty Tail Cam just plain weird

Angel Kitty Tail Cam just plain weird

Now this is definitely one of the weirdest webcams ever I have come across, and it is placed in a location which would confound most computer users. The Angel Kitty Tail Cam is located at the tip of this costume’s tail which incidentally is flexible enough to be positioned liberally. There are some rather kinky overtones implicated in this device, and I wouldn’t think this is a good excuse to pick up a webcam in the presence of your wife or girlfriend. Still, for those who are rather adventurous, the Angel Kitty Tail Cam retails for $145 after conversion.

Staffing agency to employ robots

Staffing agency to employ robots

Robots are starting to take over the role of certain jobs in Japan, with People Staff recruiting 10 of these Wakamaru receptionist robots to work at businesses and institutions throughout the Tokai area in central Japan. Standing at just 1 meter tall, Wakamaru moves about on wheels and boasts a bright yellow shell and a rather adorable smile. He is capable of recognizing faces while carrying ot simple conversations thanks to a vocabulary of 10,000 words. Wakamaru’s specialty remains in thanking visitors for waiting while singing songs to keep people entertained. Sad to say Wakamaru earns approximately $1,000 a day for temporary gigs while long term contracts require $25,000 per annum to secure him. Strange to see a company named People Staff employ robots. You’d think to combat an ageing population requires more procreation instead of creating robots to fill the population decline.

Buffalo DH-KONE/U2S TV tuner

Buffalo DH-KONE/U2S TV tuner

Now this is truly an interesting USB 2.0 TV tuner if I ever saw one. While the rest are nothing but boring looking dongles which stick out from your computer, the Buffalo DH-KONE/U2S TV tuner takes a different direction in terms of design, boasting a cone-shaped TV tuner with a high sensitive antenna within. The magnetic base makes it easy to place the TV tuner in various places, ranging from walls to even ceilings. Should you encounter non-magnetic surfaces, there is always the magic of a suction cup, although I do have my reservations on those. The Buffalo DH-KONE/U2S TV tuner is capable of searching for program-related information, news, and weather forecasts while you work away on your computer, giving you the ability to watch and record programs simultaneously. It’ll cost $99 to pick one up when released later this month.
