Looks like R2-D2 is the most popular character from Star Wars when it comes to merchandise, with Darth Vader coming in a close second. Everybody’s favorite droid has been given the shrinking ray treatment, turning him into a miniature R2-D2 action figure that can be ordered around courtesy of a lightsaber-shaped remote control. This tiny terror even comes with his signature swiveling head and red LED to please the insatiable appetites of Star Wars fans. At $29.99 a pop, I don’t see any reason not to pick this up, never mind that your paycheck is still a couple of weeks away and Christmas is still 5 months off.

P Labs has developed a new technology that change color matching items during shopping, making it a mission critical addition to any clothing or makeup buying spree. This system involves using a buyer’s cameraphone and a specialized color chart when it comes to developing recommendations. Once you capture a self-portrait with the chart in view and send it to the store as an MMS, the image will be adjusted to compensate for lighting and make recommendations for goods based on the user’s skin tones and a color-matched catalog. Guess you have computer algorithms making purchasing decisions for you now eh. This would be great for husbands and boyfriends, as they can fall back on such technology to recommend whichever color that suits their other halves.

Many underdeveloped countries face the problem of not enough water, which is why a concept such as the Max Water ought to be realized soonest possible. This unique device is capable of pulling water out of the air, turning it into drinking water. Such an invention will surely be seen as a miracle in places where clean drinking water is unheard of. Powered by the wind, the inventor claims the Max Water is capable of creating 10,000 liters of water each day, but the $43,000 price tag would certainly dry up a wallet faster than a wet shirt in the Sahara. With that in mind, do give a thought for the less fortunate the next time you leave the tap running while going off to answer a phone call - everyone can do their part to share the world’s resources.

Dell has just removed the veil covering the EC280 computer which is based on a Mini-ITX architecture. Low power consumption is a signature feature of the EC280, powered by a rather limp Intel Celeron M205 processor running at 1.2GHz with the SiSM661GX chipset in tow. The EC280 comes with 512MB of RAM and can hold up to a 80GB hard drive complete with a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM. Don’t expect serious number crunching to be done here, other than casual Web surfing and some word processing. The Dell EC280 will be released in China and hits your pocket with relatively lightweight damage of $340. In fact, it skimps so much on power that it requires only 65W to run with Windows XP Home Edition at the helm.

Most electronics are extremely fragile, and they won’t be able to withstand more than one drop without falling apart just like Humpty Dumpty. The Radiobox from Semk is different however, being made out of materials found in a beanbag chair in favor of hard plastics and metals found in most electronic items. The soft, faux fabric exterior is filled to the brim with tiny pellets that make the Radiobox a comfort to touch and hold. Controls of the Radiobox are located behind the soft exterior, with the metal speaker grill being the only element that’s not soft. I wonder if you gather enough of these on the floor, you’ll even be able to make a bed out of it. This squishy Radiobox can be picked up for $26 a pop.

Samsung’s latest 94 Series of plasma TVs are certainly far ahead of the competition, featuring wireless connectivity that does away with pesky cables. Other than the power cord, you won’t find any cable snaking out from this bad boy. All your other home theater components are connected to a receiver, where this receiver will then wirelessly transmit audio and video signals (up to 1080i resolution) directly to the TV thanks to 802.11n connectivity. The receiver boasts a fair share of connectivity options, including a trio of HDMI 1.3 ports. There are 50″ and 58″ models to choose from when released at the end of this year, with the former retailing for $3,599 while the latter costs $5,299. While prices have dropped tremendously for HDTVs over the years, they are still considered as luxuries to most people.

Here’s some information on Sony’s pending Bravia Theater DAV-IS10 home cinema system. The entire Bravia will come with five extremely small speakers, measuring a mere 4.3cm x 5.6cm x 3.9cm, but don’t let its diminutive size fool you. They are more than capable of packing an aural punch with 70 watts of surround sound. The Bravia Theater DAV-IS10 will be released in Europe this September, and will also ship with a couple of 100 watt speakers, the Bravia Home Sync all-in-one remote control, a Sony Digital Media Port, and the multimedia excesses of Dolby/Pro Logic II sound and high definition resolution. Unfortunately, no Blu-ray player is included into the package so you’ll need to pick one up for yourself. Better start saving up for one today if you want to have this sitting in your living room.

A 75-year old Swedish lady lays claim to having the fastest Internet connection in the world. Sigbritt Löthberg’s home has a 40Gbps connection, which is many thousands of times faster than the average residential link. At speeds like that, she can download a full high definition DVD in a matter of 2 seconds, or choose to watch 1,500 HDTV channels simultaneously. What’s her claim to fame? Why, she is the mother of Swedish internet legend Peter Löthberg. Theoretically, there won’t be any data loss as long as the fibre is in place, which means distance is of no object. Man, when will such speeds ever trickle down to us ordinary users who have to wait for YouTube videos to load?
