While the only thing I’ve smelt so far from the lamps in my home are burnt bulbs, the Japanese have gone one up on be by producing the Deodolight - a portable lighting fixture that not only illuminates but deodorizes as well. e-Revolution, the Deodolight’s manufacturer, does the work of two devices simultaneously, emitting a whiff of deodorant whenever the light fades between shades. You can choose to replace the cartridge when it is empty with grapefruit, forest, or unscented versions. What are some of the other smells that you would have liked to see/smell?

NTT has unveiled the Flet Phone VP2000 that looks more like a tablet PC than a phone - then again, this is no ordinary phone as it features a pair of speakers as well as webcam functionality. The VP2000 boasts a 12.1″ XGA display, enabling users to access email, surf the Internet, and even hold a video conference via the VGA camera located in front. You can hold video calls with other webcam users or owners of 3G handsets in case you’re wondering. The Flet Phone VP2000 is not cheap though, retailing for €410 in Japan. There is no word on availability outside of Japan, but I’d sure as heck line up for one of these beauties.

Looks like those with way too much time on their hands and a little D.I.Y. knowledge produce some pretty interesting artifacts, and in this case, we have the Motorola SLVR that has been encased in an old NES controller. It surely takes away whatever beauty is left from the SLVR, but on the exterior, things look rather spiffy, fooling most people into thinking this is but a cordless NES controller you’re carrying around. Definitely guaranteed to raise stares whenever you talk into one of these, but thankfully it is a one-of-a-kind device unless you have an old NES controller lying around somewhere.

While a PDA’s display might seem big at 2.5″, reading text on it could prove to be a problem to those with poor eyesight, even with some optical correction. The Magnifico Plus PDA Screen Magnifier helps solve this problem, being a universal screen magnifier for PDAs, GPS navigation systems, and other equally small displays found in many devices these days. This handheld device is attached to the base of a clamshell unit, which can then be collapsed into a compact, portable unit. If you aren’t willing to fork out $49.99 for the Magnifico Plus PDA Screen Magnifier, then at the very least increase the font size of the text you’re currently reading.

If you’re looking for an extremely tiny speaker, the I.Dear is it. This tiny cube made from wood gives your iPod (or any other compatible audio player) more oomph, but use it only in situations where you want to share your music with somebody else. The 1.5 watt speaker driver definitely won’t entertain a whole room, but at least the I.Dear comes with a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 5 hours before requiring more juice. The I.Dear also boasts a carrying strap that seems to indicate its use as a keychain, although it won’t be too useful if your keys can’t play any MP3s. You can pick up the I.Dear speaker for $45 a pop, but it is only available in Korea at this moment.

One certainly can’t be a cook if that person doesn’t know how to boil an egg. The Foolproof Egg Timer saves you the indignity of such embarassment - unless you’re colorblind of course. All you need to do is throw a number of eggs inside and keep an eye on the color. As the eggs get boiled, the timer will end up darker in the middle, expanding as it comes in contact with one of three lines (depicting hard, medium, and soft eggs) to suit your taste. This sensor is smart enough to take into account the number of eggs, the amount of water within, and even the altitude that the eggs are being cooked at. A keen eye is all you need, along with £4.99. Sounds great for campers this summer.

VTech has a brand new digital camera out this time round, and this model targets kids aged three and upwards. Since it targets the young uns, you can be sure that the Kidizoom has undergone a whole bunch of tests that make it kid-proof and unbelievably tough. The Kidizoom can be used to take photos, make movies, and play games, featuring interchangeable faceplates for a greater degree of personalization. In addition, the Kidizoom comes with pre-loaded games, displaying perfect color on its 1.8″ high resolution LCD display. The 16MB internal memory definitely won’t be enough, but the presence of a SD memory card slot fixes that problem. The Kidizoom retails for £59.99 a pop.
