Optical mouse made from grass

Optical mouse made from grassFancy going green by picking up computer peripherals that are made from grass? Since bamboo is technically a type of grass, this Bamboo Optical Mouse fits the bill perfectly. Since bamboo grows and reproduces way faster than trees, it makes perfect sense to construct consumables like the mouse without the need to add harmful chemicals during decomposition. The $40 price tag is a wee bit too high IMHO for something grown from the ground, but there’s always a price to pay when it comes to keeping the world green. Better kill our wallets than children I suppose. Just make sure you don’t keep any pet pandas around the vicinity since they love bamboo. I’m stretching the truth a little, since pandas eat bamboo shoots, but who knows if he’s hungry enough?

Nixon Lodown watch for surfers

Surfers as in the water, and not the World Wide Web. The Nixon Lodown offers 15 years worth preprogrammed tidal information for 200 beaches around the world, giving you essential data wrapped right around your wrist. Great for those who love nothing better than traveling the world, visiting the best surf spots in this lifetime. The Nixon Lodown is water resistant up to 100m, so don’t worry about jumping right in. Additional features include a backlight function, an alarm, a timer, and a date. Choose from black, silver, white, and blue colors for $90 a pop. Looks pretty cool, but the relatively high price makes this a niche product.

Holder does ashes and phones

Holder does ashes and phones

While most cars already come with a bottle/cup holder as well as an ashtray, you still have to purchase a cellphone holder separately, especially for those who have not yet upgraded to a Bluetooth-enabled handset and rely on a wired hands-free kit. This Ashtray & Cellphone holder does the job of both, helping you collect deposits of ash instead of dirtying the car as well as keep your cellphone in place during road trips. The cellphone holder segment is multipurpose as you can also turn it into an impromptu bottle or cigarette box holder (probably the more popular choice). Just one thing to note though - smoke and dust rarely mix well with electronics, so hopefully you’ll take better care of your Nokia N95.

E-Lighter is USB powered

E-Lighter is USB poweredThis looks more like a concept design than anything else, but it still remains within the realm of possibility. The E-Lighter is apparently powered by USB and lights up cigarettes as well. I know computers hate dust, so smoking beside one isn’t really the best thing to do in the world. No idea if the USB power is required to create the spark a cigarette craves so much, or is it used to just light up the character on the lighter itself. It would be cool if it was the former, but then again that would just limit your lighting radius to the length of the USB cable.

iPhone nano in the works?

iPhone nano in the works?

The iPod nano is a no-frills digital audio player, so it makes perfect sense for Apple to come up with a dumbed down version of the iPhone that includes basic nano functions. This is a possibility considering how Apple filed a patent recently, indicating a “touchpad with symbols-based mode”. The patent describes a simple touchpad that uses different symbols to represent different modes which can be selected to access various modes. Surely the iPhone nano does not video, and will probably appeal to those who are looking for a simple MP3 player embedded into a cellphone. Then again, there’re already tons of handsets out there that does MP3s pretty well, especially Sony Ericsson’s Walkman range. Would you get the iPhone nano if it was ever realized?

WildCharge bolts out of stable

WildCharge bolts out of stable

WildCharge has at long last made available its first wireless charging station for the Motorola RAZR that will be released sometime this month. While it doesn’t glow with an ebbing light, it still looks pretty cool and will probably have visitors over to your home ask you, “Is that a grill?” or some other inane question before you proudly rattle off its purpose. To get started, just place your RAZR on the pad and hook up the charging arm of the pad to the phone’s power port. Sounds more like a glamorous charger than anything else, and at $90 a pop, it definitely comes with an overkill price. Definitely not wireless in my books :(

Motorola Z9 leaked

Motorola Z9 leakedBGR has weaved their magic yet once again, and this time we’re endowed with an image of the Motorola Z9. This will be a brand new slider handset that shares more than a passing resemblance to the RAZR 2 series, and will most definitely be available from AT&T considering the obvious brand placement as well as firmware. Specifications include 3G connectivity, a 2 megapixel camera with flash, and a microSD memory card slot. Pre-loaded software includes Motorola Synergy OS and Live Video Share. It would’ve been nice to see a higher megapixel count on the camera in order to boost its desirability. Looks pretty neat overall, but will it actually take off in terms of sales like the original RAZR?

QVGA display readable in daylight

QVGA display readable in daylight

TPO Displays have successfully developed the thinnest 2″ QVGA daylight readable module in the world, courtesy of LTPS technology. This unique display uses ultra-thin capacitors that achieve a leading 0.95mm thickness (or should I say thiness), delivering superior performance in a compact package. We definitely could do with more of such displays integrated into various devices, as there are still plenty of cellphones and PDAs that look absolutely washed out whenever you step indoors. The same goes to my beloved Nintendo DS Lite as well, it is a bummer playing outdoors with plenty of sunlight all around as it is extremely hard to see what’s going on. Mass production is expected to begin sometime next year.

Samsung capitalizes on Olympics

Samsung capitalizes on OlympicsWhat better way to make a quick buck than produce Olympic-themed products? That’s what Samsung is doing anyway, releasing the P318+ cellphone which is essentially a special edition of its P310. The hardware remains the same, but the difference lies not only in the price, but content as well. This includes extras such as Olympic Games ringtones (which would be so passe once the Games are over), wallpapers, and even video clips. One notable upgrade would be the 18k gold exterior that ought to attract more than a few jealous glances. Don’t expect anything gold to come cheap though, but you ought to have at least one more year to start saving up for one.

Accushot22 for that perfect shot

Accushot22 for that perfect shotEver wished you could score three pointers in your sleep? The Accushot22 helps you achieve that dream by offering oval indentations that players can see and feel, allowing players to perfect the proper finger pad and hand placement which are the basics to consistent shot making. Of course, the Accushot22 basketball is not limited to training purposes only, but can also be used for regular play. In a nice touch, you can pick up the Accushot22 in left- and right-handed versions for $37.95 each. A Michael Jordan you might not make after spending hours with the Accushot22, but I’ll be damned if your shooting doesn’t improve.
