Largest solar power farm in the world

Largest solar power farm in the worldFolks living in California have one more thing to be proud of, and this time it is housing the largest solar power farm in the world. Built by Cleantech America LLC, this solar farm takes up a whopping 640 acres of space, 17 times larger than the current U.S. title holder in Arizona as well as 7 times larger than the previous world record holder in Germany. When completed, it is hoped that solar generated energy from this farm will be sold to a public agency that provides power to a dozen cities and a couple of counties in the surrounding area. That’s like, 21,000 homes which is no mean feat. When will developing countries take up the clarion call of solar energy as well, especially those lined up along the Equator?

ZTE D Evolution dual-alphabet phone While English might be widely spoken all around the world, sending text messages in different languages on a cellphone keypad can turn out to be a rather tricky affair. The ZTE D Evolution cellphone will be a 3G handset, but that’s just about all the details that we have on it at this moment. Stay tuned for new developments, if any.

QKphone 911 splits eardrums

QKphone 911 splits eardrumsI think I have a very good idea why the QKphone 911 was named with that numerical number in tow - its meant to remind you to call an ambulance in case you scare an old person around you to death with the sudden blaring of your cellphone ringtone. Apparently the QKphone 911 is capable of playing ringtones and music at 120 decibels, loud enough to cause pain and permanent hearing damage to your ears. No idea on how much this handset costs, but I sure as heck wouldn’t want to see it Stateside, its five speakers and all. Loudness isn’t everything, and more often than not your phone’s speaker will probably crack in the first place.

Viliv X2 does navigation and DMB

Viliv X2 does navigation and DMB

If you’re wondering whether there is an all-in-one device that does both navigation and portable TV, the Viliv X2 fits the bill perfectly. Some of you might think that this looks very much the same as the P2 which was released a few months earlier, and you’re certainly not wrong as your eyes are not playing tricks on you. The only difference between the X2 and P2 is the replacing of the P2’s hard drive with flash memory instead (4GB and 8GB capacities), as well as an upgrade to SDHC-compatible memory card slots. The Viliv X2 is powered by the SiRFStar III GPS chipset, Picture-in-Picture function, and support for the most popular multimedia formats. Pricing and availability details have yet to be finalized.

Musipen concept MP3 player

Musipen concept MP3 playerThe MP3 player isn’t exactly the most exciting device to look at in the world at the moment, mostly because today’s design is pretty much uninspired. Chris Williams aims to make things right with his concept MP3 player design known as the Musipen. The Musipen might be radically different from regular formats, but it still looks portable and practical to use. The cylindrical form allows for an increased screen space, while controls are performed via twisting and sliding each edge of the player. Now if only there was a hardware manufacturer willing to take up this design and materialize the idea…

Joba gallops into stores

Joba gallops into stores

The National-Panasonic Joba EU6442 (hereby known as Joba) is nothing but a mechanical horse, and looks set to be another iGallop contender. Meant to give you a thorough workout as if you were sitting on one of these magnificent beasts yourself, the Joba features a trio of settings (waist, hips, and general). The faster settings force you to make an effort when it comes to balancing, which is probably where you expend your energy the most. Too bad there aren’t any bronco bustin’ moments with the Joba even at the highest speed level. The Joba will retail for $1,500 each. Well, at least you don’t have to pick up after a dirty stable every other day.

bCube green prefab home

bCube green prefab home

Prefab housing has been looked upon by some with apprehension in the past, mostly due to the fact that back then folks did not place too much faith in a Lego approach when it comes to building homes. D’b3haus Technologies Corporation from the Philippines have concocted the bCube prefab house that claims to be 100% green, offering a pretty amazing way to pack people into their respective homes while keeping the environment clean. Too bad the design from the outside will look pretty much the same, so use your interior design skills to stand out from your neighbors. Do you think prefab houses will catch on nationwide?

The 800MHz scanner is capable of forming detailed maps of the sea floor up to 150 feet directly below a boat or up to 240 feet on either side. The 8″ display is also generous enough to display live marine chart data side-by-side with the maps. The Humminbird 997c SI Combo GPS unit retails for $1,999 and comes with a detailed UniMap chart.
