Toshiba HD DVD players surfs web too

While it looks as though HD DVD is losing more and more ground to Blu-ray with each press release, Toshiba isn’t going to take this lying down. The company has just made available a firmware update that lets HD DVD players go online and access Web content on HD DVD titles through the player’s built-in Ethernet ports. This means users can enjoy extra content from movie studios’ online services or unlock extra content hidden on the HD DVD disc with a decent Internet connection. Will this boost HD DVD movie sales, or is it just a short term gimmick? Toshiba HD DVD players can download firmware updates automatically as long as they’re connected to the Internet.
