High heels experience transformation

High heels experience transformationWomen often have it tough when they’re wearing heels while driving. Sheila’s Shoes have decided to tackle this problem by creating a fancy stilleto that has enough room to stow the heel within the sole when it is not required, popping out only when you want to stand tall in the presence of others in a social situation. In a manner of speaking, you get two shoes for the price of one, which is always good value in anybody’s eyes.

Salvation 1 toy helicopter

Salvation 1 toy helicopterOne toy that has certainly gotten everyone interested the past couple of years has been the remote controlled helicopter, and the Salvation Helicopter will do nothing but spread that fever further, thanks to its well designed looks and relatively affordable price of £49.95. Boasting a trio of channels (up and down, left and right, forwards and backwards), you can be sure that spending a day outdoors with the Salvation Helicopter will be fun-filled. A full charge (35 to 40 minutes) gives up to 12 minutes of flying time - somewhat diminishing returns, but the fun factor ought to make you forget about all that waiting. Do you already own a remote controlled helicopter? What are some of your most memorable moments with it?

Education.com: Web 2.0 for parents

Education.com: web 2.0 for parents

Education.com beta launches today and for once, the Web 2.0 folks are paying attention to the parents. I met CEO Ronald Fortune last week at an “education and technology” presentation hosted by Azure capital. According to him, there is a void in educational websites. Searching for competitors, I found several websites with terrible user interfaces and design, and most cover a limited aspect of parenting. None of them offers the Facebook-like community features available on education.com. The best competitor is probably iVillage Parenting – it features a large amount of articles covering a broad range of topics, but their online community capabilities aren’t as sophisticated (see the profile page comparison in the full post).

Education.com will be the “one-stop shop” for high quality information about parenting and it is already partnering with well-respected organizations and Universities.

Thanko goes metal with MP4 watch

Thanko goes metal with MP4 watchNo, I don’t mean the genre of music videos played on this MP4 watch but am referring to the material used to construct the new MP4 watch from Thanko. Let’s face the facts - cheap plastic often don’t make the grade when you’re trying to sell a gizmo to consumers, which is why the MP4 Watch uses metal this time round. Not only does the watch feel more solid, it comes with a larger display that helps prevent you from getting sore eyes after an hour or so of viewing. The display supports 128 x 128 pixels resolution, or if you’ve encoded video in widescreen format, it does 160 x 128 as well. There are 2GB and 4GB versions available that retail for $167.40 and $212.93.

LG Fusic II in the works

LG Fusic II in the worksI suppose information about the new LG Fusic II is as abundant as snow in Egypt, other than the fact that it comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, a display with a resolution of 220 x 176, and EV-DO support. Word on the street has it that the LG Fusic II will be released within a couple of months from now, although there has been no official word yet. I must say the clamshell design looks extremely sweet, and this could be the Chocolate 2.0.

Universal Solar Charger from Brando

Universal Solar Charger from Brando

Summer is great since you get a great deal of sun in the vicinity, so what better way than to take advantage of all that sunlight by charging your gizmos while saving on the power bill at the end of the month? The Universal Solar charger is compatible with most known cellphones as well as other devices that run off USB power, as long as the recharge voltage stands at 4.5V. During cloudy days, the solar charger can be recharged via AC power. Great for those who are heading outdoors this summer. Brando is currently offering the Universal Solar Charger for $69 a pop.

FCC approves Huawei M318

FCC approves Huawei M318Looks like Huawei from China will be making a beeline for the US market soon, considering how the FCC has already approved the M318 clamshell cellphone complete with MetroPCS branding. This CDMA handset is pretty bare bones in every sense of the word - it is missing both a camera and Bluetooth connectivty. I guess corporations would be happy to get these for their employees since the lack of a camera means a lower chance of industrial espionage. No idea on how much the Huawei M318 would cost, but it definitely ought to be around the same price as dirt (which means extremely cheap).

Pink Tatung LCD monitor a HDTV also

Pink Tatung LCD monitor a HDTV alsoIf you’re living in a cramped apartment and are looking for a 2-in-1 solution, the 17″ Tatung LCD monitor fits the bill perfectly. When you’re not working, you can always use this LCD monitor as a HD-ready TV at a resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 pixels, a standard aspect ratio, a contrast ratio of 500 to 1, a response time of 5ms, and a viewing angle of 140-degrees. At $248, you can’t really go wrong but 17″ is a wee bit too small for blockbusters that cling onto the adage “bigger is better”. Would you settle for a 2-in-1 response such as this, or would you be motivated to keep your LCD monitor and HDTV separate?

systemX lighting neat to look at

systemX lighting neat to look at

If you’re thinking of giving your home decor an overhaul, look no further than the systemX fluorescent lighting system which was designed and created by Ross Lovegrove. Made from modular ‘X’ pieces constructed from plastic and aluminum, each of these pieces come with 2 T4 21W fluorescent bulbs. Individual ‘X’ pieces can then be combined in a variety of geometric layouts including large planes, lighting up your room in a truly unique manner for different lighting moods. The systemX is currently available in Europe only (looks like our friends across the pond finally get something ahead of us), so those of us residing Stateside will have to wait until the website removes the ‘Coming Soon’ sign.
