Tamagotchi Music Fever a travesty

Tamagotchi Music Fever a travestyWhat? An MP3 player that doesn’t connect to a computer? This makes the Tamagotchi Music Fever an outrage, as it can only import music directly from a CD player or other audio source, forsaking the favored ‘drag and drop’ technique that has long been a favorite with many an MP3 connoisseur. The Tamagotchi Music Fever was released to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Tamagotchi franchise, and it retails for $115. It has a storage capacity of a mere 2 hours, making this truly a collector’s item for the hardcore only. Each Tamagotchi Music Fever comes with 19 character types that dance to the currently playing track and two pre-loaded mini games.

SolarCraft solar energy system

SolarCraft solar energy systemSolarCraft has recently announced that the company has installed and commissioned a 1.1 megawatt solar energy system at Paramount Farms, California, making it the largest agricultural solar energy system in that state as well as country. The entire solar energy system spans across a whopping 8 acres, milking every little bit of sunlight possible to help keep the earth green without burning up any more fossil fuels. I wonder why countries in the Middle East and those along the equator can’t do the same since they get a whole lot of sunlight throughout the year.

SolarExpress PDA II solve USB woes

SolarExpress PDA II solve USB woes

If you’re still using your PDA-only device (which coincidentally has been going the way of the dodos steadily for the past couple of years no thanks to the introduction of smartphones), the SolarExpress PDA II gives you a single-port Compact Flash USB 1.1 host card for PDAs running on Windows Mobile 2003/2005 and Pocket PC. You’ll be hard pressed to find a PDA with a CF slot these days, and what’s up with USB 1.1 when the world has already moved on to USB 2.0? For those who still want to inject that little last bit of flexibility into their ailing PDA, the SolarExpress PDA II retails for $84.95.

King Titan Robot is retro

King Titan Robot is retroWhile Robosapien et al are the new ruling class of toy robots, the King Titan Robot brings us back to the late 80s and early 90s with its design and updated capabilities. Able to walk and talk, the King Titan Robot comes with a shiny electroplate chrome finish, standing proudly at 15″ tall. Its armor and weapons can be removed, so expect modders to do a number on this one. Other features include preset light and sound effects, an animated data monitor, and a low, low price of $40. The only drawback would be the inability to program it.

Nokia E61i Review

Nokia E61i Review

By guest editor Steven Nersesian

The day my beloved Nokia E61 was stolen was a sad, sad day in my life. I had grown oddly attached to its alluring screen, quirky buttons and its uncanny ability to hunt down open WiFi spots. The killer was that it never played nice with iSync on my Mac so I rarely backed it up to my PC. So alas, I lost enough data and contacts to make a sizable dent. Like I said, it was a sad, sad day.

It didn’t take me long to start hunting for a replacement E61…. burning the midnight oil… searching Ebay (you know the drill). But when I saw the announcement of the Nokia E61i, I resolved to wait it out. The long list of new phone offerings distracted me… first the iPhone with it’s tempting touch screen… then the Blackjack with it svelte profile… and who could resist the Blackberry Pearl… and I have to admit that the Sony Ericsson W880i teased me with it’s uber-clean looks but I stayed away from them all… and I am proud of myself

Portable emulation console in the works

Portable emulation console in the works

Ben Heck is the brain behind many a unique console modification, and his fame has snagged him a partnership with Gameport to design a new portable emulation console for mass production. The pocket-friendly Gameport is currently still in its prototype stages, emulating different classic 8-bit systems as well as the Atari 2600 and Colecovision. Transfer of ROMs are as easy as hooking up the Gameport to a computer via USB. Is retro gaming the rage? After all, plenty of people are playing emulated ROMs of yore on their PSP instead of enjoying PS2-like graphics on the handheld. The Gameport prototype currently measures 3.5? x 5? x 1? and will most probably be more refined in the final release. Pricing and availability details are currently unknown.

NTT DoCoMo unveils SIMPURE L2

NTT DoCoMo unveils SIMPURE L2NTT DoCoMo has just lifted the curtain on its 3G FOMA SIMPURE L2 cellphone for users who do not want to be hassled by complicated functions. Developed as a collaboration between LG and designer Gwenael Nicolas, the SIMPURE L2 is a slider handset that works with DoCoMo’s WorldWing roaming service as well as W-CDMA, GSM and GPRS networks. The SIMPURE L2 will see a July release, with no word on pricing as at press time. Looks pretty much plain to me in its black shade, but I guess the uppity business suits would love a minimalist concept such as this while packing 3G power. What about you? Flashy or simple?
