Vaio Type R computer is speedy

Vaio Type R notebook is speedy

Anyone who has a penchant for racing cars know that vehicles sporting the “Type R” logo offer beastly performance under the hood, but who would have figured out that Sony would bring the same naming convention to its line of Vaio computers? The latest Vaio Type R computer was built specifically for video entertainment, featuring a choice between Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Duo Extreme processors that reach blazing fast speeds of 2.93GHz. In addition, these desktops come with 3GB of RAM and a choice between four dedicated graphic cards. All these hardware will run on the Windows Vista Ultimate operating system, and you will have to dig deep to pick up one of these babies.

USB Classical Fan keeps you cool

USB Classical Fan keeps you cool

The summer season can get pretty hot and sweltering at times, leaving you with a sticky, sweaty body and a short fuse. Brando is offering the USB Classical Fan that hooks up to your computer via any available USB port, and is turned on by pressing a switch located behind. The design harks back to the 70s, where the oscillating function enable you to keep the cool breeze just to yourself or share it with your buddies at work. A pretty neat device to keep you extra cool if the office air conditioning system isn’t up to par. The USB Classical Fan currently retails for $18 a pop.

Keychain Pocket Watch

Keychain Pocket Watch

Everybody carries at least a set of keys with them, be it car, office, or house keys. While many do not pay attention to the type of keychain they use, some are rather more conscious, which is why this elegant concept of a Keychain Pocket Watch is guaranteed to turn heads. It looks like an ordinary cube at first glance, but pulling the cord will display the current time even when blanketed in darkness. The semi-transparent cube measures 20mm square and is powered by a couple of cell batteries. Kudos to Francisco Cubides for this concept - now will someone work on a commercial product already?

Samsung announces 8GB microSD card

Samsung announces 8GB microSD cardLooks like the microSD card family has a brand new addition, thanks to Samsung’s safe delivery of its latest 8GB baby. I’m amazed at how they squeezed in that much memory into a flash memory card that measures smaller than my thumbnail. Performance of this 8GB Samsung microSD card ain’t half bad either, featuring a write speed of 8MB/sec which is quadruple the amount posted by older cards. Great for those who substitute their iPods with cellphones as 8GB can hold up to 2,000 songs on average, keeping you entertained for hours on end. Pricing details and a release date have yet to be confirmed.

USB 2.0 Audio Hub from Brando

USB 2.0 Audio Hub from Brando

Most motherboards these days already come with an integrated sound board, while the USB 2.0 Audio Hub certainly doesn’t look as if it has the processing muscle to outperform external sound cards from Creative, making me wonder what niche this product is trying to fall into. At $20.50, don’t expect 5.1 channel surround sound or any environment effects - in fact, you can count your blessings this peripheral even comes with a trio of USB 2.0 ports. Each purchase comes with a pair of headphones and a microphone for all your VoIP needs.

Charging made easy with Chargepod

Charging made easy with Chargepod

If you ask me, wires are sentient creatures that tend to curl up together in a ball whenever you leave them alone. Callpod has thought of a brilliant idea to combat the tangled end of things by offering the Chargepod system. This unique six-point charging device lets you juice up half a dozen devices simultaneously without leaving you muttering curses under your breath as you try to untangle the mess of wires involving six different chargers. This is made possible as the Chargepod’s central charging hub comes with many different kinds of power adapters that are controlled by voltage regulator technology, ensuring each device gets the right amount of power - no more, no less.

Milk Carton is actually a radio

Milk Carton is actually a radioGot milk? While that question might be old, this Milk Carton Radio is anything but that. Coming in the all-too-familiar shape of a milk carton, this radio comes with a retractable antenna to capture your favorite station that is currently playing over the airwaves. The features are unremarkable to say the least, but it is the overall creativity that captured my heart in the first place. The Milk Carton Radio retails for $14.95.

Actbrise input device for disabled

Actbrise input device for disabledThe good folks at Actbrise have developed a special kind of input device for the disabled by using everyday items. Comprising of a baseball cap (preferably one featuring your favorite team), a plastic tube, and a USB cable, the cap enables the wearer to move the mouse cursor in the direction they want by moving their head. The tube, measuring 1.8 meters long, is used to detect mouse clicks. All the user needs to do is blow down the tube for a left click, while sucking results in a right click. Pretty neat idea, but it is definitely a bad one if you want to play Diablo II or other mouse-killer games with that.

Dr. Frog reminds you to water

Dr. Frog reminds you to waterNurturing potted plants can be quite therapeutic for the bored housewife, but sometimes getting all the chores done and running errands for the family could cause mom to forget about her plants altogether. Dr. Frog aims to prevent that unfortunate situation from happening, monitoring your soil’s conductivity level and alerting you with a discreet, intermittent croak whenever the conductivity falls below a pre-set level. Dr. Frog also boasts an integrated light sensor and goes to sleep at night just like you do. Powered by a couple of G10 batteries, Dr. Frog retails for £7.99 and makes a great reminder tool.

Meizu MiniOne specs unveiled

Meizu MiniOne specs unveiled

At first glance, non-technoholics could actually think that the Meizu MiniOne is actually an iPhone. For the record, the MiniOne is a Windows CE 6-powered smartphone running on an ARM11 533MHz Samsung processor, aided by 128MB of SDRAM. Features include a TFT touchscreen boasting a cool 16 million colors at 720 x 480 resolution, a couple of cameras for casual snapshots and video calls, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, an integrated DMB tuner for TV on-the-go, GPS navigation, and support for numerous audio and video file formats. The MiniOne comes in capacities of 4GB up to 16GB, retailing from $260 to $450. Hopefully the battery life will be able to withstand the punishing list of features. Looks like the Nokia N95 has a pretty formidable opponent in the form of the Meizu MiniOne.
