Cellphone strap actually a charger

Cellphone strap actually a charger

It is confusing enough that this cellphone strap looks like an eraser, and yet it doesn’t send mistakes made with a pencil to oblivion as the device is actually a cellphone charger in reality. Powered by a couple of AA batteries, you will be able to give your exhausted handset a quick boost to make that all important business call. Unfortunately, the list of compatible phones is shorter than a dwarf, working with cellphones from FOMA and SoftBank only - ensuring all you non-Japanese stay out of the loop. Can’t someone port this idea over Stateside?

AnyCall 838 gaming handset

AnyCall 838 gaming handset

Trust the Chinese to present us with yet another wacky phone design, and this time the AnyCall 838 is the beneficiary of infusing gaming elements into a handset. The AnyCall 838 gaming cellphone features a 3-way sliding mode. Sliding it one way will reveal a numeric keypad, letting you use it as a normal phone. Give the side a push and the AnyCall 838 turns into a gaming device, complete with a NES emulator preloaded for you to enjoy all those classics from the glorious 8-bit era. Last but not least, the bottom body can be shifted to the bottom left from top right tobe used as a control pad. I say stick with a standard handset from a reputable cellphone manufacturer and pick up a DS Lite for your portable gaming purposes instead.

OneSource Healthy Vending machine

OneSource Healthy Vending machine

One could argue that vending machines in schools that dispense candy and chips are one of the causes for the rising obesity epidemic. Horizon Software aims to combat that by offering the smart-enabled vending machine, enabling parents to track online what snacks their kids have purchased from the vending machine as well as the types of food they indulge in. Kids won’t be able to make a purchase unless they key in their PIN number or use a prepaid card, where both are tracked via www.mealpayplus.com. I suppose kids could still use their allowance and sneak in a Mars bar or two from a nearby convenience store…

While the Joneses settle for one of those pretentious, golden fans, you can always go one up on them with the P-40 Sharkmouth nose ceiling fan. This unique home appliance comes with an integrated light in the nose cone, keeping the room lighted and cool simultaneously. Definitely a must buy for aviation enthusiasts, and little Johnny will definitely be thrilled to have this installed in his room for his 8th birthday. The P-40 Sharkmouth nose ceiling fan is rather pricey though, setting parents’ back by $199.99.

Champagne flute doubles up as hourglass

Champagne flute doubles up as hourglassDrinking responsibility is a simple idea in theory, but practically speaking, most people get drunk before they know it as the effects of alcohol aren’t exactly immediate per se. Tim Hulford has designed a champagne flute which works as an hourglass as well - the timer is symbolized by a gentle glow which emanates from the center. When the hour is up, the glow would have disappeared completely, signalling that the alcohol consumed from this champagne class has faded. You subsequently remove the plug from the botton, turn the glass over, and pour another drink for yourself. Since champagne can get pretty expensive, you won’t see folks down their drinks as fast as beer. Hopefully this concept sees the light of day in the near future.

LG Z1 laptop with Sideshow

LG Z1 laptop with Sideshow

LG has taken the Chocolate cellphone design idea and implemented it into its new laptop known as the Z1. This laptop is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83GHz processor and comes with 1GB RAM, a 120GB hard drive, a mid-range video card, and a 12.1″ TFT display with 1280 x 800 resolution. What sets the Z1 apart from other laptops would be the 2.5″ Sideshow display located on the cover complete with touch sensitive buttons for navigation purposes. I personally think that Sideshow is much more of a gimmick compared to the Nintendo Wii control scheme. As if you don’t have enough devices helping you keep track of your appointments, incoming emails, and other items already.

Slideon MP3 player concept

Slideon MP3 player concept

It is a no brainer to finally see an MP3 player designed after a cellphone, taking some notes from slider handsets and ending up with the Slideon MP3 player concept. Ian Murchison’s brainchild hides all the controls under the geometric display - an aesthetically pleasing idea, but dedicated external control buttons would have been a much better idea. After all, most people prefer not to fiddle with levers, slides, and what-nots when it comes to their music, as getting straight to the point is much mor eimportant. Other features of the Slideon include flash-based memory and a battery which is recharged via its headphone jack.
