How apt for a pair of million dollar speakers to be named the Grand Enigma. It is truly an enigma if anyone rich (and silly) enough will fork out all the money just for a pair of speakers. Makes you wonder how that person got so rich in the first place without any common sense. There will be only a single set in existence, which could explain the grossly inflated price. For all the money poured inside, it had better boast some hard hitting performance figures!

E Ink has recently refreshed its electronic ink technology that is guaranteed to wow even the general layman. Known as Vizplex, this renewed technology offers vastly superior specifications when compared to previous iterations of E Ink imaging film technologies. For example, the typical switch speed is nearly halved to 740ms from 1,200ms previously and the peak switch speed (monochrome) ranks at 260ms compared to 500ms on its predecessor. Brightness has also increased to 40% while greyscale levels have been doubled to 8. New TFT modules based on Vizplex will be manufactured in time for a summer release, with sizes ranging from 1.9″, 5″, 6″, 8″, and 9.7″.

Having real-time GPS tracking sounds like a cool idea, but it will be hard on your pockets. The GPS Snitch is evidence for that claim, with the hardware along costing $400 while the monthly subscription fee costs up to $26 - all that on top of the $30 activation fee. For those out of the loop, the GPS Snitch is a GPS receiver that comes with its own GSM antenna and a SIM card. Once the device leaves a pre-determined virtual fence, you will be alerted via cellphone with a text message. The web interface also enables you to monitor the GPS Snitch in real time. The GPS Snitch’s battery lasts up to 7 days before requiring a recharge, or you can just leave it plugged into the car charger at all times.

Let’s face it, you’re not exactly the best authority when it comes to the health of your body, which is why the Alive device from Australia helps keep you in reasonable shape. This is made possible by using a Bluetooth device that monitors vital signs such as heart rate & activity, with ECGs, blood oximeters, and blood glucose meters sending vital information to a central Internet server via a GPRS mobile data connection. Health professionals will then be able to contact you whenever they sense a problem on the horizon. After all, prevention is better than cure, isn’t it?

Most website authors and publishers hope that their stories will be Digg-ed enough times to make it to the front page for the much desired “Digg effect”, but not many succeed even after being in the scene for many a month. Why bother with the virtual Digg button when you can always work on a real life Digg counter? All you need to do is press the button, and the counter will automatically increase your count by 1 while saying “dug”. Unfortunately, there is a 999 Digg limit, but since this is a project it shouldn’t matter that much. A reasonable knowledge of D.I.Y. is required before cobbling together this Digg Counter. Now, a story about making your own Digg Counter is one sure way of bringing in the diggs!

Super Talent does not want you to have an ugly RadyBoost USB flash drive sticking out from your PC which is running on Windows Vista, and hence developed the Super Talent ReadyBoost device that plugs in directly into your computer’s 10-pin USB connector, giving you a hidden ReadyBoost advantage. There is no word on pricing, but we do know that the Super Talent ReadyBoost device will be shipping Stateside. Chances are laptop owners over desktop users running on Vista will pick this up.

If you thought your home had a spiffy set of lighting controls, think again. The Domia X10 device offers a picture frame that comes with a pressure sensitive layer, where you place a photo of your living room within the picture frame. Parts of the picture, when touched, will automatically cause the Domia X10 to register those touches and manipulate various lighting fixtures in your home accordingly. Pretty neat idea, since you don’t need to label your switches that leave ugly glue marks behind. Unfortunately, the Domia X10’s asking price of £200 is rather steep, making it more of a luxury than necessity.

The beauty that is the Nokia N82 will soon be released, but in the meantime let’s tease you with a rather blur picture and some word on specifications. The Nokia N82 will apparently sport a 5 megapixel camera (whether it’s the same as the N95 camera remains to be seen), WiFi and Bluetooth with A2DP connectivity, 3G support, and a respectable 320 x 240 resolution TFT display. Sounds like a fun phone for the well heeled more than anything else. It will be missing a GPS navigation system though, but expect other multimedia functions to remain intact. The Nokia N82 is slated for a Q4 release later this year at a yet undisclosed price.
